Got the itch for a new 45 single stack for carry and plinking .the new Springfield RO compact looks great in a mag I was reading but wondering about the bull barrel and new take down method I’ve never owned a Springfield 1911? But maby I just need a g36 ? I’ve got single stack size hands and have a xds45 but it just doesn’t feel right ? Any suggestions thanks .
Not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Guess my advice can go either way…if you don’t have a 1911, the Springy RO isn’t a bad way to go. But for carry purposes, especially if you are happy with a striker fire platform, then the Glock is a nice choice…
I don’t have the Springfield model you reference. However, my G36 is my EDC. I do have a full size Springfield loaded that is great. All i can tell you is that the G36 is very easy to carry and to conceal.
I have a ROC .45 and do like it enough to keep it for sure. I have 200 rounds through it and will advise to purchase a good Wilson Combat mag as your carry mag. She’s accurate and I just ordered a S&A magwell to install, which will allow me to use the seven round mag. All needed now is a good pair of VZ grips that fit the compact with magwell, flat bottom and they do.
I don’t have the RO Compact, but I’ve been using the Glock 36 since it was introduced, back in the late 90’s I guess. I’m on my second one now, and have never had a failure with either one. They do feel a little odd in the hand at first, and they’ll bang on your middle finger until you perform a little crocus cloth “therapy” to the rear of the trigger guard. I’d highly recommend that you rent or borrow one before you buy, but I like mine.

Hey Canine does the ROC have the ILS MSH?
it does, but Mr. Alexander @ Smith & Alexander Magwell’s will sell you the correct MSH (kit) spring and spring plunger for an extra $10.00 if you order the magwell. you loose the ILS when you install his MW.
I put the Wilson round butt MSH on my RO9 to do away with the ILS. I had to grind down the rear bottom corners of the frame to match the contour of the MSH, but it came out well. Very comfortable.
I just got a RO compact 9mm and through the first 100 rounds no problems seems pretty well put together. Never shot a G36 handled one in a shop but it didn’t do much for me
As a previous gentleman indicated, this is not really a valid comparison. I’m a 1911 freak. I don’t dislike Glocks, but like the 1911 much more.
I have shot the G36 maybe once or twice but I remember it was very easy to control. Not sure I would get one over a G30s but I liked it for what it was.
FWIW I had and carried a G36 for for about a year. Mine was 100% reliable, very accurate and fun to shoot. For me the G36 (or G19 for that matter) is a LOT easier to carry all day than a 1911.
A 1911 can be a great carry gun. I carry a Wilson Stealth .38 Super. But, unless you are willing to spend time knowing the gun and its preferences for mags and ammo, I would not recommend you carry a 1911. They are like finicky women—it takes a while to figure out what they want, but once you do… !!
I have owned and carried a G36 for a number of years. It is a nice, carry all day concealable handgun. I have moved on to 1911’s and my current carry is an Ed Brown Kobra commander sized model. The G36 has it’s place, I guess it’s all down to whatever makes you happy. ![]()
How about an XDs 4"?
The G36 I borrowed and shot was amazingly easy to control. I was shocked at how easy it was to shoot compared to any 3.5" 1911 I had ever shot.
I have borrowed that same G36 from my friend several times now. Still don’t know why I have not bought one.
have you shot the G36? It is very easy on the hands and the one I shot was 100% reliable.
I still want one…maybe some day.
I have a G36 and love it. Mine has been 100% and is VERY accurate. I’ve heard complaints on other forums about capacity and reliability but, it’s the internet so who knows how many complainers were limp wristing or have ever actually held one let alone fired one. Mine’s a keeper.
Bonus: If you have holsters for the G19, 23 or 32, your G36 will fit perfectly. Bonus #2: The G36 slide will mate perfectly with a G30 to create a poorman’s G30S.
Glock for carrying for sure. 1911s are just more fun to shoot.
I have shot a G36 and own a RO compact.
Im a 1911 guy and carry one daily so Ill be biased.
Go for the RO and add a few features for a badass carry blaster, its what I did. My holster will be here tomorrow for the RO compact, Im not sure how much it will get carried however. I got it for when I needed something smaller than full size
Heres what I carry day in day out
Nice! What color vz grips are in your pics?
