These are both about the same price. They both seemed perfect in F&F.
I like more features on the Para. Like.
-The Ion Bond coating which is actually like a DLC. finally a gun coating like a knife coating that is tough as shit.
-Wide serrations. I just prefer Para’s wide cocking serrations.
-Great grips. I would have to dump the standard grips on the springer.
BUT
This pistol has to run and thats my concern with the Para. And I’ve heard that Para’s can be hit or miss. I’ve also heard that since Travis Tomasie has joined them their CS has been outstanding and will take care of any problems.
I know Springer has great CS and stands behind their products 100%.
Also the Springer has a better trigger and no firing pin block unlike the Para which has a series 80 block but the trigger felt great the 1 time I dry fired it.
Springfield’s are some of the most reliable production 1911’s you can buy. And if it doesn’t work, they will make it right with minimal hassle to you. If you want to upgrade with custom work in the future, the Springfield will be a much better base gun to do that with.
If those are you two options the Springer is the only answer. Para’s horror stories are just too much for me. SA will take good care of you should something go wrong.
Para had some guns in the past, but after their recent changes they are an unknown. Springfield on the other hand is very well known and stands behind their guns. Personally I would go with a springer, especially since I already have two of their 1911s…
I just can’t see going with the Para. My friend had a double stack .45 4"(?) I believe. I think it was the Warthog? It ran okay but the build quality didn’t inspire a lot of confidence for the price. And the trigger was only so-so.
On the other hand, I have a few friends with Springers and they have very consistent quality.
Springfield all the way. It’s the logical choice and a better base gun if you decide to have it customized. The finish is the only nice feature in my opinion. FWIW the Para roll marks are just wrong!
Yea my instinct says Springer as well. I would like to eventually get a mag well installed and some 25 lpi front strap checkering. Then off to someone who can do a DLC finish like the Para has.
I’d like a TRP Operator, but those are out of my budget.
My Springfield Loaded Champion has been awesome and I’m going to have to sell it to pick up the new one, so I want something that will run as it will be my EDC
Is “neither” an option?
I’m not saying that as a knock against 1911s, but rather those two.
If you want to get into the 1911 game, you are going to need to invest real $$ into it.
I fully agree with this statement. If its just going to be a range toy then so be it, but if you are going to use it for serious work that is another matter all together.
So 10-8 says an MC Operator is a good choice, but doesn’t mention the LW. Are there any differences other than steel frame vs aluminum. The LGS has the MC and LW Operator. I like the lighter weight of the LW and the all black. Don’t really care for the od/black combo.
Why. Have you actually worn out an Aluminum framed 1911? I like to shoot, but not that much. And I think the frame would hold up perfectly fine. Plus if it does develop an issue I’m sure Springfield would fix it.
