Springfield should get out of making guns completely. These imbeciles make “comp” versions of this thing. I can only imagine the fight to get that fukking thing reliable.
My son brought my piece of shit out last weekend and shot a few mags. He didn’t have any malfs. The turd shoots high as hell (POA/POI). Center mass hold at 15 yards = head shot hits.
He shows me all the youtube videos he’s dug up on the malf festival this God damned pistol is. Last one he showed me, the dude couldn’t even chamber the first round successfully.
I’d love to put a dot on it to figure out if it could be tolerable, but the thought of pouring more money/effort in the fukking thing is repulsive to me.
I’m fully back in the GLOCK camp due to this life sucking pistol.
I think this bucket of shit might actually be running now. I took it out last weekend to shoot some super sketchy ammo I got from a friend of a friend. (I didn’t want to risk a Glock).
Pappabear’s new Titan had the plate loose, so he shoot his 200 rounds through this thing and it didn’t miss a beat.
I’ve gently eased myself back into firing this Prodigy. Although the irons still can’t be zeroed, (POI too high), I got a Osight C on sales for $149 off of Amazon and can now zero the gun correctly.
I added an Impact Machine plate with the rear back up iron sight, and I bought 3 of the Mec Gar 2011 mags that have been well reviewed.
At this point the gun has run really well for weeks now. The only remaining issue is that it locks back every so often with one remaining round in the mag. This isn’t unique to any one mag, and even happened on an Atlas mag I was running.
I can live with the occasional premature lock back since the gun seems to run well otherwise. We tried a few of Pappabear’s no lock back competition follower mags and the couldn’t replicate the issue. I’m starting to actually like this gun in some sick way.
Looks like Dawson Precision offers a selection of various height black serrated front sights now. I wish I’d found these before buying a plate, but I still would like to fix the POI on this gun.
In Springfield tradition, the green fiber optic was falling out of the front sight and I had to super glue it in place a few weeks back.
Fiber optic rods come in at least 2 different diameters. You cut the right diameter long so it protrudes out both ends and apply heat to the ends. They will swell to a larger diameter preventing going back through the hole. The longer you leave it, the larger the resulting dot. They will break eventually and each end will fall out. Keep spares and a lighter. Nice bright sights, but not very durable. I only use them for range guns. If you don’t like green, its a snap (literally) to change to red and vice versa.
