Hey guys,
Been trying to learn to speak FAL. Would a Springfield 4800 be a better
rifle choice over a DSA gun if the price were right? Is a 4800 still the same as
a 48? And what about support since SA does not import these anymore?
I really am interested in still finding the original chrome lined barrel. I am
correct that the SA 4800 is chrome-lined right? Thanks guys.

The SAR-4800 is a post ban version of the SAR-48. Yes, they have a chrome lined barrel.
The only support you’d get from Springfield if anything went wrong is a credit towards purchasing one of their M1A’s.
If you wanted a standard pistol grip and buttstock with flash suppressor, you’d need to unban the SAR-4800 with the appropriate amount of US parts to make it a US made rifle (technically).
I would have to know the condition of the SAR-4800 to be able to compare anything.
The rifle is NIB.

That’s a fairly decent price, but factor in what it’s going to cost to unban it.
It is unbanned. Short belgian hider. Normal stock and grip. But why does the
lower say SA-48 Match and the upper SAR 4800?
If you take a look at Buck’s thread, the SAR-48’s were caught in Customs. They had to remove the “bad” parts and put the thumhole stock on. The purpose built SAR-4800’s that were brought in after '89, before '94 were marked 4800 on the upper (serialized part) and the lower they just used parts that had been marked from the previous model.

If this is a SAR-48 without any neutered parts it is easily worth $1500, and more like $2000 if it is NIB like you said.
The receiver is marked SAR-4800 though. I’d really like to see a pic.
It’s very possible that the owner installed one of Springfield’s “Accurizing Kits” that they sold for their SAR-4800’s and SAR-8’s. I did the same to a Springfield SAR 3/8 overstamp way back in 1991 or so.
What is the accurizing kit? And the upper does say SAR-4800 and Sporter below that. So I am pretty sure its the later post 1989 type rifle.

i have an SAR-4800. left side marking: SAR-4800, 7.62mmSA- xxxxx, SPORTER
right side marking on mag well: 1005-SA-48-MATCH.
It should also have the SA crest… They are all marked that way…
I updated the guide with more info but is still a work in progress…

yes, it has the crest. plus on the rear right of the receiver it says:
SPRINGFIELD ARMORY, GENESEO, IL, USA
MADE IN BRAZIL
Yep, that is exactly what this rifle says too.
