Springfield 1911 double stack?

I came across a used 5" double stack Springfield Armory 1911 that has caught my eye. I find it to be an interesting piece…unfortunately I haven’t yet kicked the urge to buy it. I don’t find it any bigger in the grip than my Glock’s in 10mm and .45, so that feature isn’t a deal breaker. I haven’t been able to find out much useful information about them. Anyone have any experience they can share?

Some info you might find useful.

Thanks!

I’ve only seen 2 double stack 1911s and both had feeding problems.

This article was written 7 years ago. The STI magazines from the factory wrapper now, need NO tuning.

Every magazine I have ,20+, have been straight from the wrapper from the factory. I think many improvements have been made. This is from thousands (4K+) of rounds in various training classes, sand, etc…

Just my observation based on use.

Good to hear a positive firsthand account of a double stack 1911.
I like the idea but have never taken the plunge.

Every other person at USPSA matches has them… they all run fine.

Get yourself a quality one (like an STI) and you’ll be fine.

I finally cleaned my Edge for the first time this year, I have the IN sectional his weekend… I think I shot approx. 3,500 since April… no problem. Last year I put over 10,000 rounds through it and only cleaned it 3-4 times(before major matches).
