Spray Paint Camelbak

Has anyone tried spray paint on a camelbak?

I have one that is mostly black and I want to paint it tan. My goal is to keep it from absorbing heat from the desert sun.

Thanks

Probably wouldn’t hold the paint. I’m not sure what material yours is made out of but you could try dying it or bleaching it.

Might just be easier to buy a new cover/carrier for it.

With enough flat tan from Krylon you can obliterate any color nylon on the planet. I saw a RAV a few years back that started black and ended a sandy tan color. It is all about how much paint you are willing to use.

You sir, are a wealth of information.

Thanks for the feedback.
I guess the best thing to do is to buy another one.
I went to the hardware store to get some paint and talked myself out of it.

A light mix of bleach and water would work. Say… 1 part bleach, 3 parts water. Even less perhaps. This way you can monitor the color change a little better and slow down the speed in which it lightens. Cant say your going to end up with magpul FDE, but it will defiantly last longer then some paint and should be better than black.

Just my 2cents.

This.

In my opinion, spray paint is best used to supplement a base color, not cover it. Dust in line break-ups, accents, etc. Otherwise, fabric becomes stiff, it cracks/peels, and you end up with more disappointment than function.

I was being sarcastic.

OD’ed on serious pills today.

Have you tried dye?

Rit and I Dye are pretty good. I Dye a bit better as it has a series to try for cellulose and non cell mixes of materials. That way you can be specific. Rit has various responses to non cellulose. I got damn near a rainbow last session.

Either way I still put a “hue” of the exact color I want. To take the sharpness the color may have and sort of dull it up and “earth-tone” a bit.

Just a thought.
