Spikes CHF mid-length also by FN

After reading the PSA CHF upper thread, I found this article which highlights the new Spikes Tactical CHF 16" mid-length.

Spikes also marks their barrels with “FN” and seems to tout that relationship. These new barrels also have the optimum profile, which looks to be similar to the Noveske profile.

Does anyone know about the actual barrel dimensions?

Info snip:

The Heart of the New ST Elite Mid-Length upper is the FN Cold Hammer Forged barrel.

These Amazing CHF barrels are extremely durable with a 20,000+ round service life, yet they capable of shooting a 1/2 MOA group @ 100 yards with Quality ammo, Optic, and shooter.

These CHF barrels are turned to ST’s New Optimum barrel Profile. This New profile is lighter than government profile but beefier than a lightweight profile, it’s an “Optimum” profile.

The barrels utilize a Forged F-Marked A2 front sight base which is taper pinned to the barrel (perfectly straight) in the Mid-Length location.

The barrels have a .750″ gas block seat with a properly sized gas port and the muzzle is threaded perfectly concentric with 1/2×28 threads.

These CHF barrels are made to the Mil-Spec for the M249 SAW. The barrel blanks are the correct Certified CMV material and they are also Hard Chrome lined to the M249 SAW Mil-Spec, which is almost twice as thick as the Hard Chrome on a Mil-Spec M4.

Each barrel is HPT and MPI.

They have Mil-Spec M4 barrel extensions, Mil-Spec Phosphate finish on the outside (under the front sight base as well).

These New ST Elite uppers also include a Forged charging handle, Nickel Boron M16 HPT/MPI Bolt Carrier Group, Magpul MOE Mid-Length handguards, Melonited gas tubes, and the New ST-T1 buffer.

I saw that too. I thought the medium weight barrel profile they were using looks interesting.

I don’t own any Spikes products but it looks like they are using good materials doing the proper QA for their uppers.

The cockles of my heart are seriously warmed.

We’ve progressed from “just as good as” and “paying for a pony on the side” to even the lower end companies savagely fighting over who produces the bestest, uber-quality parts and weapons.

I couldn’t care about the hyperbole; this is just cool in my book.

I’ve never been a fan of Spikes, but I do like the looks of that barrel profile. I wish we would see more manufacturers / builders move towards a more balanced (read: not govt) barrel profile.

Seems to be modeled after the Centurion LW barrels, not GOV profile but not a true LW…

If people buy them, there will be more. Just like mid-length gas systems and everything else that has turned out to work/sell well. There is almost always room for improvement in a man-made machine. Even an old simple one.

Myself I’m saving my pennys as we speak. I’ve been very happy with my 16" middy upper from Spikes, and this one has the nic-bor coated BCG in addition to the CHF barrel. Darn near my ideal upper.

Interesting. Quality components at very competitive prices. How’s the reliability of Spike’s products overtime? Say, compare to BCM and DD?

Hmm, that’s a VERY interesting upper there. Even a melonited gas tube? Huhh, interesting. And they say that the barrel is capable of 1/2 MOA with quality ammo.

I have a buddy that wants to get into the AR game and I think I “may” point him in this direction. Maybe. I need to check this against a BCM CHF upper.

Anyone think this will/can cause manufacturers such as LMT, Colt, DD, ect. to start dropping their prices? Possibly not Noveske since they have a unique chrome lining process and their barrels seem to be about the best on the market without going uber-match like a Kreiger…

Burst fire…

Spike’s “lower end”? [stupid comment removed - sorry, 120mm]
If I weren’t perfectly satisfied with non-CHF barrels I’d be considering one of these.

1/2 MOA out of a CHF barrel? I question this…

Looks like an otherwise great setup.

Yes, they were lower end. At one time.

But look how they’ve aggressively improved their product. And still, their prices are fairly reasonable, and definitely come in at the lower end of the serious carbine category on price.

The point isn’t to bash Spike’s or PSA, it’s to point out that even less expensive carbine manufacturers are trying hard to compete on quality. And that is a good thing.

This looks like a very impressive offering.

Interesting to note it was sort of implied that it was AIM that requested this upper, and it will be exclusive to them. And the 14.5 version is due in three weeks or so.

That was originally made for their 5.45 uppers to help resist corrosion. Maybe they had a lot of them in stock, or they just threw them in the CHF uppers since everything else is different from their usual uppers.

I’m sorta surprised at including the NB BCG, surely that is running the price up. Might have been AIM’s request though.

I’ve been considering one of their dissy uppers and when I saw the melonite tube I looked into it. From what I understand they’ve been using those on all their uppers for a while now.
