A few years ago there was a shop that swore it was illegal to sell Gold Dots in the 50 rd LE boxes, so he had to sell em in the boutique boxes…
Same load that is marketed differently to civilians at a higher price. Civilians = 20-round box and LE = 50-round for a much better deal. Always look for the 50-round box first if you can get it. Same principle applies to PDX1 from Winchester in 20-round boxes versus the Bonded Ranger T line-up. Hornady and Federal are doing the same thing and all appear to be using the recent ammo shortage as a way to market premium ammo to civilians at a significantly higher price.
Money is the driving force here. Conversely, at least civilians can buy good ammo they otherwise could not obtain due to manufacturers’ policies of selling to “LE Only!”
I had no idea. I guess I need to be a more careful shopper. You add the price of brass, powder, primer and bullet and you come up with no where near $1 + per round. I knew I was getting hosed. I don’t buy much of this stuff. Enough to fill a couple of magazines. I chrono a few rounds then load similar or identical bullets to the same velocity for practice. I don’t use the expensive stuff for practice or testing.
