Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. Velocity

Gents,

I finally chronoed the 124 gr. Gold Dot using 5.5 grs. of Ramshot Silhouette powder, CCI 500s and Winchester brass. From a Glock 19, speeds were running 1035-1066 ft/sec. which were identical to some old Federal 124 gr. Hydra Shock factory ammunition. The Gold Dots shot to point of aim at 15 yards.

I guess I expected them to run faster, since this is near maximum from the Ramshot data. Has anybody clocked factory Gold Dot ammunition? Thanks.

Out of my M&P9 FS, the Speer 124+p averages 1230fps on an 80 degree day.

Try 8 grains of Blue Dot. 1300fps Glock 17.

I appreciate the suggestions. One reason for trying the Ramshot Silhouette was the reported low flash characteristics and supposedly this powder was used for some military loadings.

I have never used Blue Dot, though I won’t rule it out.

I use 5.1 grains of Universal Clays to get 1210 FPS average through my Glock 19 with Speer 124 Gold Dots. Velocities were taken in January.
