This is rare? Maybe I should take the 200 rounds I have out of the magazines and put it back in the boxes for safe keeping. I honestly didnt realize it was that rare.
Yes. It is a restricted round and word on the street is that Federal is losing interest in making 5.56 ammo.

I knew it was restricted. I might have to pick some more up, although is there much difference between the 5.56 version and the .223 version of the 64g SP? I think its the same projectile between the two unlike the two different 75g TAP versions.
The 556 version is faster, but that is about it.

Thanks Grant!
Just picked some up. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks guys.

Other than the Mxxx mil ammo you mean right?
Correct.

Why is it considered restricted?
The 24455 was discontinued because people were running it in .223 or bad chambers, having problems, and blaming Federal rather than the manufacturers of their good-as guns. Further, any additional gain over the .223 loading (22446) wasn’t significant enough to justify two loadings for the same bullet.
It was restricted in part for the same reasons, but remained available to the commercial side while in production.
There are a couple of threads discussing the 24455, and comparing it to others. Search “speer 24455” for some good results.
