Specific VTAC answers please

Seems like VTAC would be the most cost effective and ergonomic continuous FF rail for me (M4 16" w/regular front sight setup). Some questions I have:

  1. How would it handle heat COMPARED to a DD FF like Omega, or a Magpul forearm?

  2. What is weight difference than say the DD EZ?

  3. Would it let the barrel cool quicker than an Omega rail WITH rubber covers or a Magpul forearm?

  4. Has anyone seen any difference in accuracy when going from non ff to ff on their gun?

  5. Any pics of a regular carbine flatop with a VTAC rail?

Thanks folks.

Most of your answers can be found in these threads. I’m going down this road as well.

One thread touches on the heat issue, but nothing about cooling time, weight, etc. Thanks.

Questions still stand.

The VTAC will feel hotter faster than a normal railed forearm, but the biggest advantage with a standard HG comes from the ability to have rail panels, which make a tremendous difference in heat transfer to the hand.

As far as barrel cooling goes I have not noticed a significant difference between the VTAC and other railed HGs, such as a KAC RIS or DD RAS.

As far as weight goes, the VTAC extreme is awesome. It makes the front end of the gun snap handily from target to target. The narrow diameter makes gripping the HG very easy, especially when compared to the fatter HGs on the market with rail panels installed. If there was a way to attach TD SCAR panels directly to the VTAC I would call it nearly perfect.

Sorry - got in a rush. Here’s another thread:

HTH.

Spurholder:

WOW! You done good! Makes the rifle look unique too. I do think it gives one options down the road to add, but doesn’t take away from the feel or ergos in handling the gun the way conventional rails do.

Kinda wish I had a middie now from the pics - they always look cool. Which I could see an M4 setup with it.

IN any case, it seems to handle heat OK.
