I have a Colt MT6700 that is getting the SA SOCOM barrel and plan on getting Magpul CTR buttstock. I only have limited range experience with my AR and no technical knowledge and I need help in finishing this project. Specifically, which rail will fit the SOCOM barrel and is the 6700 buttstock mil-spec or commercial? I think it’s commercial but not sure.
Any rail should fit with the SOCOM barrel profile.
To fit a CTR, you will need to buy a carbine receiver extension. The mil-spec ones are of a much higher quality. There are more differences than just the outer diameter. See the FAQ section.
With the RE, you will need to buy an end-plate and castle nut.
I’m sure SA sells them.
Stick with Colt, don’t hack that puppy up and stick a bunch of branded junk on it.
Any drop in carbine length (or cut out) should fit the barrel. If you’re planning on having it cut down or the FSB pulled, it will open up your options. I would recommend you get someone who knows what they’re doing to knock that out. Hopefully the muzzle device won’t be pinned yet. You’re going to run into different barrel nuts too but those are typically rail specific.
A quick and easy drop in rail would be a KAC RAS. Easy to find from KAC or the secondary market.
Get a milspec sized stock and it will fit. Colt RE’s are milspec sized.
Colt uses milspec Receiver extensions. If you want the Magpul CTR stock just by the milspec version. Magpul makes their stocks in both commercial and milspec versions.
Shipping my rifle to SA to rebarrel the rifle. I’m having them install their SOCOM barrel and other Colt mods. MT6700 is heavy and I’m looking for something lighter. Thought about selling the gun and getting 6920 because I’d have to sell it at a loss. Thanks for your help.
