I am not sure crowing about it is the right word but I am happy to see a lower than average level. I don’t know about others but in my personal circle a lot of us are needing a better 2014 than 2013 was. Glad to see the LEO community didn’t have a bad year- about as best as I can put it. Sorry.

Yes, It is/was a tragedy for every LEO that was killed in the line of duty. It is always a hope this year is better than last.
It was actually better that the last 60 years. MVA’s have got to come down too. Too many single LE Vehicle accidents.
Too fast for conditions, forgot that next curve or wuptido in the road. I get the ODMP emails and I read and try to understand how this tragic event happened. If someone can figure it out and get officers training changes, may say a few more each year. Not looking for miracles, just a steady decline year after year.

This is great news, but there doesn’t seem to be a very consistent trend downward or anything. Seems like the numbers rise and fall almost equally since ~2001 or so.

Even still, as we all know, one is one too many. I lost a good friend this year; we all lost a good patriot and a community lost a great LEO.

R.I.P. Buddy

There is a group called Below 100 that has been on a training campaign the last few years. There goal is to get LEO deaths below 100 for the year, which hasn’t happened in like 40+ years. I did the training in September and it mostly covers driving as that’s the #1 killer usually. It was kind of ironic because my partner and I got into a pursuit right after the training (rare for Phoenix as we are only allowed to pursue violent felony suspects). Its a very powerful and moving class.
