The emptier the range the better.
Some silly old guy pointed a gun at me the other day - I took the opportunity to mentor him.
I agree. I am sick and tired of getting swiped by some idiot taking their gun out of their case, car, ect. I now avoid going to the local ranges on the weekends and try to do the majority of my shootings early weekday mornings when I am off from work.
As for the guy in the pics, I am just glad that he did not kill himself or someone else. I am sure he will be more careful and think twice next time he is at the range.
that is awesome.
you got his trigger discipline good yet? ![]()
man he’s gonna be hardwired for gun safety by the time he’s 8.
He wasn’t believing me on the rules, so I showed him a MagpulD video where Travis goes over them- now he believes me. We just work on muzzle, trigger, target right now. He does all his mag changes in his ‘workspace’ and I have him doing barrier drills now that he watched the trailer for Carbine 1. ![]()
Only range I shoot at is indoors for pistol practice, every other time its big open desert with 1,000’s yards of open space ![]()
Watch your back, or have someone with you to watch it for you while out there.
Unless the OP knows the shot/injured dude in the photos and he gave permission to do so, I find it odd behavior and poor judgement at the very least to snap pictures of a injured person and post the photos on a public internet forum. Im just sayin’![]()
Your kidding right? The news media does it everyday. We live in the age of instant digital communications. I thought it was news worthy to the shooting community and I posted the pics to drive home that a second of having your head up your ass can have dire consequences.
I guess I should not take pics and tell the story so the professional MSM can do it for us.
Shooting yourself in the hand with a revolver takes work. I have seen people who clear their pistol by grabbing the muzzle with palm covering barrel opening. Wow.
Indian River county public range in Sebastian by the looks of it, if I am not mistaken.
That is what my Dad did to me and I am very hardwired. It works and I suggest it to any parent.
And I’m just sayin’…that this has already been addressed within the thread. Not to single you out, Nick, this is for everybody.
There’s nothing wrong with it from a legal or strict ethical standpoint, and while I personally agree that perhaps it might have been politic to swirl or otherwise obscure the face of the vic, I also note that from a behavioral standpoint that it’s a judgment call.
Whether it’s poor judgment or not is purely dependent on the frame of reference of the individual. I think that it’s fair to stipulate for the record that there are board members that will find the presence of the photos objectionable, for one reason or another.
Having so stipulated for the masses, we’re done with that tangent, folks. Savvy?
I strongly suggest that if anybody has anything more to say about the presence of photos, other than pointing out some otherwise-missed visual detail pertinent to the topic at hand or citing verifiable legal reasons to remove/edit the photos, that they do not post it, and instead voice their concerns in regard to photographic propriety or legality to their most trusted loved ones, drinking buddies, clergy, or Ms. Cleo at the Psychic Hotline.
Noting idiots and the consequences of the idiotic things they do can be of counterclockwise benefit by reminding others as to the reasons why one doesn’t want to be an idiot or do idiotic shit. Visuals are a force multiplier in that regard.
On a public range filled with average gun owner bubba types, it happens on a daily basis. I’m glad he only shot himself. I’ve lost count at the number of times I’ve been “flagged” at my own range. Luckily, the ROs stay on top of unfamiliar shooters and sternly remind them of the range rules they just read.
Thank you for an excellent summation with respect to the photo issue. I regret opening the door on this subject as it has, in part, hijacked the thread and diverted attention from the OP’s original intent, which I interpreted to be drawing attention to the need for enhanced vigilance when utilizing either public or private ranges in the company of shooters with vastly disparate levels of experience, skill, and safe gun handling technique.
True, but your point was well made since, for example, a picture of the guy being loaded into an ambulance did nothing to further the OP’s intent.
You sir are correct.
I thought so
And with the usually solid RO control, I am surprised that someone would have such a nasty ND.
I normally feel very safe and secure there (maybe a false sense of security now!) with the RO oversight, whenever I have been there, both on the rifle and pistol ranges. RO’s there usually run a tight ship and have an eagle eye on the line when they get ready to call it cold (when this incident happened) and also before calling it hot.
But then, negligence happens and the RO cannot have his eyes on everybody all the time.
Lesson learnt - be vigilant with every visit to the range.

Was this a bullet-through-the-hand thing, or a case of someone putting their flesh too close to the gap-o-doom that people don’t seem to learn about by reading the manual?
