Some barrel decoding

Heh! Stay tough. It’ll take awhile, but it gets better and it’s worth doing.

If FN makes only CHF barrels, then both barrels are CHF. Sell the CHF marked one because it will sell faster

BTW, where are you? We just moved about 50min. north of SLC.

West Haven, about 5 minutes north of Ogden Airport.

Wanna trade for a FAL barrel?

The bottom barrel isn’t marked “FN” though, just ST.

You’ve got a point there. But both barrels were marked by the same machine, (or at least the same type) in the same place using the same font. Also, few barrel makers can claim their steel meets that mil-spec.

Be that as it may, the one stamped CHF will sell for a better price more quickly and the non-CHF barrel will serve just as well.

Either barrel will make a good, durable rifle

If I was a company, and I was having things private-labeled, I’d have everything marked the same way (font, location, naming convention, etc.) regardless of which supplier it was coming from.

Personally, I like having the best stuff possible, even if it’s just in my head, so I’d keep the CHF, extra-thick-chrome barrel, and with the market today, I’m sure he could at the very least get his money back for the other barrel.

When I posted originally and after seeing the comments to it, I kind of thought I might want to keep the CHF barrel because of the extra chrome and M249 Steel.

However, now I’m thinking I may just want to let that one go (at a possibly higher price) and keep the other since I wont ever be doing any rapid fire/tactical shooting and also probably won’t ever wear out either barrel.

And, for those wondering, I won’t be getting rid of just a barrel. Both barrels in the photos are part of complete Spikes Tactical upper receivers. I also have two Spikes lower receivers, one carbine and one rifle. So, when it’s all said and done, I’ll get rid of a Spikes with a carbine stock, and keep a Spikes with a rifle stock to use as a long range target gun.
