Sold on the ACOG!

I recently got an ACOG TA11F from another forum member and have been shooting it for he past two weekends. Today my wife and I were hitting a 10 inch steel “gong” at 300 yards with no trouble. She had never shot an M4/AR platform before today, and hit the gong 5 out of 10 times.

I could not be happier with the ACOG. I have always used Aimpoint ML2/3 scopes, and thought they were nice. I am seriously thinking about getting a TA31F for my other carbine. I am looking for other members input on getting a TA31F. What are your thoughts?

As Ive stated in other threads I find the TA11 to be a far superior sight as compared to the TA31. There are many comparisons between the two available.

It all comes down to what you want to do with it however.

I really had to get use to my TA31F due to the short eye relief. I’ve been getting better with it and I’m really starting to like it. Just last week I was hitting jack rabbits anywhere from 25m-150m with only one shot.

I was thinking about the TA31F to put on my department rifle for LEO duties. Not necessarily CQB, but for perimeter and manhunt type situations in the woods. In urban areas, for distances of 50 yards and out. What are some thoughts?

I have the TA31F and G models. For distances of 50-500 meters this optic has been dead on. I can easily get 1st round hits on 500 meter rams on our steel range.

Clays at 100 yards are easily vaporized. I really like the Chevron recticle. Makes shooting easy. You can’t go wrong with the ACOG. The eye relief is short but I shoot nose to charging handle so it doesn’t bother me at all.

Its easier to get used to if you dont have to shoot w/ a helmet. I never could get used to the optic and my NOD mount banging together.

Thanks for all your input. I will not be shooting with a helmet, and I shoot with my nose close to the charging handle as well. I just thought the TA31F would be the one to choose for my work gun as I always try to have similar systems, and it would be the same as my 11F…

I’m not LEO but I’ve shot targets 30yds and on in 3 gun competition and the ACOG worked fine. You’ll have to compensate for bore/sight under 50yds. I usually use the 400-500 meter mark when I’m that close. However, only 100-300 meter is illuminated at night.

While a fixed-mag optic like the ACOG isn’t as optimal for 50m-and-in shooting as an RDS is, it’s merely a training issue.

You won’t necessarily be as fast, but if you practice right, you certainly wont be slow.
