I recently got a Maxpedition bag and would like to make the material softer. The stiffness of the bag and strap make it noisy and uncomfortable. Is there any trick for softening synthetic material that you know of, short of dragging it behind the car for days on end???

Maxpedition uses ballistic nylon instead of Cordura (which I prefer). Sadly, in my experience it stays pretty rigid even with a lot of use.
You might try tossing it into the clothes dryer (low/no heat) along with a tennis shoe for a couple of cycles…a dryer sheet might help also
