Socks for hot-weather wear

I’m looking at a pair of vented Merrel Moabs for hot weather hiking. What socks should I wear with them?

I like Cabelas Coolmax for warm weather. I’ve had good luck with them.

Are you looking at the Moab that are low-cut style hiking shoes, or the Moab’s that are a 6" high boot?

I really do like the Smartwool light boot socks with a polypro liner sock in hot weather. That’s for the boots.

If it’s the shoes, I just use a Smartwool crew sock.

I have the Moab Ventilators in both lows and mids for everyday wear, rough trail, and overland hiking. I wear mostly these multi-purpose Under Armour socks:

They keep my feet cushioned and dry. They last awhile and are a good value. I also have some lightweight smartwools and equivalents.

I’ll have to pick up some of those and try them - thanks for the tip. It’s about a par 3 from my house to a Cabela’s.

Me too, it’s handy having them in town, isn’t it?

They do a nice job of wicking moisture & have a nice cushioned bottom. They’re pretty much all I wear in the summer. I HATE sweaty feet!

Good luck!!

I’d go to a bicycle shop or a runner’s store and get socks from them. Cycling and running socks are made to keep feet from staying sweaty, and are durable as well.

These are good socks. Made in USA.
I prefer the lower cut ones with less compression.

EMS coolmax socks. I wear them everyday.

Which would you recommend for light hiking? What are the pros and cons for each?

I tend to prefer mids for most purposes but it depends on terrain. If it’s easy ground and I’m going for a walk more than “hiking”, I don’t mind the lows. Mids for anything else.

I really like the Smartwool PHD ultra light mini runner socks I got at REI. I use the UA’s for most occasions, but when its hot you can’t beat these.

Much agree. I wear the low ones to work in the summer, with jeans and a polo shirt.

The ones with more ankle support get worn on weekends, walking the 80-pound GSD mix, etc. My medical records are as thick as the Denver phone book, so I like the extra support.

I have been wearing Coolmax for 15 years now they are great socks.
I also wasted my money on underarmor socks. The fit sucks and pulls on my pinky toes.

I have been wearing Smartwool socks for both running and everyday wear for over a year, I really like them.

I’ve been wearing Wigwam’s for some time now. Normally I wear the merino light hikers, but this summer I tried the cool-lite hiker and their pretty comfortable… Ron

Check out Sock Guy, they keep feet dry and they honestly aren’t even noticeable on you feet…

This is your money line above. If you really want the good life for long days hunting and shooting. LINER. A super thin wicking liner that wicks and reduces friction / heat. Very good if your putting boots on for first time and worried about blisters. These days with the good boots, not so much of an issue, but who wants to have blisters on day 1 of a three day hunt!

If I’m wearing shoes then I have Smartwool on my feet. I don’t like for my socks to go much higher than the tops of my shoes. I have several different setups for different purposes.

Pretty much Salomon and Smartwool for me. I haven’t found anything to make me want to move away from this combo.

I recently bought these and really like them. Mine don’t say ultra-light on the side though but it looks exactly the same.

Maybe I have the same thing in a normal weight, I don’t know it that even exists. I don’t see any others on the site. the photo looks exact except for wording on sock. Mine just say wigwam
