So you want a Colt with a Mid-Length Gas System??

Yeah, even if they were inclined to do so, it doesn’t make sense to add a new model to the lineup so long as they can sell every one they make in the current lineup. I had the Colt’s Mfg. Marketing Director on the firing line with me all last Saturday. It was the same story when I told him I need an XSE in 9mm. They can’t make enough as it is in .45. :frowning:

My agency doesnt allow BCM, and the only Milspec MFG it allows is Colt. THIS is what I need here in the near future. Might be making another gun purchase from Grant here soon.

If I’d had the money, was going to do something very similar to this. I was going to buy a Colt FDE 6920 and replace the carbine barrel with a 16" FN middy pencil barrel. I was between jobs, however, then the Sandy Hook thing broke on our heads. I never mentioned it because I figured most would tell me it was too much effort just to get a middy Colt.

I think it’s a great configuration, Grant. Glad you had the resources to make this happen and greater courage and vision than me.

All ya gotta do now is apply Hydro-Dip

I would be keen if offered with other rail options.

I guess I don’t get it?

What’s the point of this vs. buying a BCM rifle and putting the SMR on it? You would not be wasting the money of buying a whole rifle and ditching a perfectly good barrel.

Is there actually anything better about the remaining Colt parts than the BCM parts? It seems the only point to starting with the Colt would be the role mark. I mean how much of ‘Colt’ is it really still when you ditch the colt barrel?

I would love to see what the price of this would be vs. the price of a BCM with the same rail on it.

Again the only point I see is to have the Colt role mark, but I always thought on this site it was frowned upon picking things for cosmetics over function? Maybe Colt fanboyism creates a double standard?

I like it but I’m not a fan of the LW bbl. I prefer the BCM BFH Govt. profile bbl.

I think it really depends on the perspective at which someone looks at this. The intention is to replace a Colt SOCOM 16" carbine gassed barrel with a BCM middy for the benefits of a midlength gas system. Makes sense. If someone looks at it as starting with a BCM 16" middy & scrapping everything but the barrel, for Colt parts, it makes very little sense. But that’s not really what’s happening here. It’s a glass half full/half empty thing. Ultimately, it depends who’s name you want on the magwell. Both are quality names. If I was in the market for a new AR, I’d give it solid consideration.

We can do that. Currently we have all the Geissele rails in stock. We also have several Noveske NSR’s.

We would keep the barrel (thusly offsetting the price of the middy barrel).

Colt wrote the TDP. No one knows it better and for many, the gun MUST SAY Colt on the side. So we are just helping them along.

Take a BCM MOD 2 and add a GB and a $325 dollar rail and add $100 for the hammer forged barrel. Cost would be about $1756.

People like Colt (I know I certainly do) and so do does the owner of BCM! With that said, this gun will ONLY interest the die hard Colt fans that have wanted a middy version with a long FF rail.

Non-die hard Colt fans won’t care.

We have some pricing. With the Geissele MK3 13" rail and a BCM LPGB and standard A2 FH, cost is $1774 for those interested.

Grant -

When you say you have all Geiselle rails in stock … did you mean just the MK3 and MK4 you show on your site … or are you now stocking the MK1 as well?

Thanks.

We have SOME MK2 and MK1’s in stock (along with the MK3 and MK4).

That is one sweet looking carbine.

Well in that case thats pretty cool, and cool of you for offering it. It would even better if it had a forged Diamco barrel and DD RIS II, keeping it more Colt/mil spec

Sure (if such a barrel existed in a mid-length). The DD RIS is an easy one, but we don’t get a lot of request for those these days. The hot rails are Geissele, Noveske (and soon to be BCM).

I did this once with a DD barrel and LaRue rail.

My standard advice since 2005 has been to buy a Colt and install a Noveske barrel in it.

Read 3 posts above yours for a possible reason…

Which “variant” of the MK1? I prefer the original.

Would you be offering them without a rail? Are the LPGB pinned?

Don’t know much about variants (haven’t paid that much attention). We just got them in so they are pretty new.

My first choice is the MK4. My second choice is the MK3. Weight savings is everything to me.
