So yeah... Don't ever buy your accessories at the local gunshow unless you know...

…how to spot a fake.

We’ve all see the eBay special Fakepoints etc. Trademarks look right but the products are normally sold for Airsofter’s and come in plain brown boxes.

These are some items a friend recently sent me from Hong Kong. Just thought I would share. I wanted these for my Smith and Wesson M&P-22 I’m about to start putting together. I wanted to pimp it out and I knew I could spend more in accessories then the damn gun cost so I called up a friend to see what he could get me. I ended up getting a few items for some of my other AR’s too. I couldn’t believe some of the stuff he found for me.

All of them came in full packaging with full instructions etc. I threw out some of the larger packaging before I thought to take pictures.

Magpul MS2 Sling…

The top ones real, the bottom ones fake. The strapping is just as silky soft as the real one and for the most part other then the buckle looking thing at the quick pull tight loop and the finish, it’s a pretty DAMN good copy. The real one runs about $60, the copy cost me $10 dollars. Even came in the correct packaging as you will see below.

The Magpul RSA is also a copy. The cost was $6 dollars. Also came in packaging with instructions. The Magpul Bad Lever packaging is real, just tossed it in for a comparison.

Made in the USA my ass!

The Surefire Scoutlight also came with real packaging and instructions. One thing to note, the head is not sealed like a real one but someone who doesn’t KNOW, well wouldn’t know. Uses a CREE C5 LED so its about 120 lumen BRIGHTER then my real Surefire G2 LED. My friend says its 200 Lumen and I believe it. They even make a replica LaRue QD mount.

The light included both the clicker cap AND The pressure switch.

The cost was $28 for the light, $9 for the LaRue mount.

American Defense Aimpoint Mount. Cost, $13 dollars. Even comes apart like the real one and you can even buy the different riser inserts like the real American Defense sells. I have one of those Sig Sauer wanna be Aimpoint Micro’s coming to use with this on my M&P-22 although those are designed to handle 5.56… Hrmmmm lol, maybe I need a couple more of these!

And my favorite… Daniel Defense Mk18 RIS II in Dark Earth. Trademarked like the real thing and fully CNC machined, NOT cast with the standard pot metal. Included a hardened steel barrel nut and the mounting bracket along with all the screws. Cost, $71 dollars.

They even laser engraved the trademarks that go INSIDE the rail. You know the ones you can’t see once it’s installed. Why would you need those if the stuff wasn’t suppose to pass for “real”?

Installed on to one of my Del-Ton builds. Mounts right up nice and straight. Sucker is ROCK solid with zero flex or movement.

My friend was telling me its no longer about Airsoft replica’s, it’s about counterfeits. He said with our new pres in office AR’s have been flying off the shelves in record numbers with new owners buying TONS of accessories so they figured why not counterfeit all that stuff too like they do shoes, handbags, watches, etc.

I’ll have to post some of the pictures my friend sent me of the stuff I didn’t get. He said he could get Magpul UBR’s, ACS’s, ASAP’s, AEG’s, MBus sights, pretty much ALL the Magpul stuff. Before anyone says well Magpul is licensing the Magpul stuff under the name Magpul PTS for airsoft, yea that stuff is MARKED Magpul PTS, this stuff is all marked, in the proper packaging to be sold as the REAL thing.

I got a really nice LaRue marked scope mount coming too. $27 dollars the dealer was out of stock on that one so he said he would have to send it next week when more come in from Mainland China. Again for you guys who say blah its all cheap Chinese knock offs, yes they make those to but these counterfeits are amazing quality and finish. These are not your run of the mill “airsoft knock offs”. He said pretty much anything you could want it for sale over there and the buy he bought it from said he sells hundreds of each item to people all over the USA daily. I’m sure as hell never buying parts from a non authorized dealer again!

Before anyone’s asks where they can get his stuff, you can’t… Well, maybe you can but I didn’t order it from a shop, a have a friend who lives in Hong Kong, he found it all for me and send it to me directly and no, I’m not ordering anyone anything!

Damn… pretty shady …

As well as illegal.

Murphy’s law “if it sound’s to good to be true, it probably is”…

That’s just sad…:frowning:

That’s the problem, there are people out there that would sell these items for the real retail prices and some people will never known they got screwed.

Lets say Jim Bob goes to the local Gunshow. Picks up same counterfeit sling I posted above, pays $50~60 dollars. Do you think he is ever going to find out it’s fake? Unless he REALLY know’s his AR’s and AR accessories, probably not.

I just wanted cheap “airsoft” parts for my Smith/Wess M&P-22. I had no idea they had an actual “counterfeit” market for gun parts outside of just the airsoft stuff I’ve seen. In past years the knock off’s were normally just airsoft replica’s. This stuff was suppose to fool people into thinking it was real.

The quality pretty freaking good too. Not the old pot metal crap of the past. Everything’s freaking CNC machined out of like 7075 and 6001 and hard coat anodized or something on par with a ceramic based poly coat.

Tell you what though, I’m never buying anything of any real value from a dealer who is not 100% authorized again lol!

Sure is some neat stuff though. I’m going to pimp the hell out of my .22LR AR.

That just plain sucks. Now I’m all freaked to buy items from EE…

We just did a little test on the counterfeit Magpul MS2 sling in my buddies garage. We threw it up over an I-beam in his garage the same way you would run it as a one point sling. We then attached a 5 gallon bucket to the quick detach point and filled it to the top with water.

Well, it held that so we dumped the water and threw a bunch of pieces of concrete in the bucket. Held that so we started to throw scrap metal/steel in the bucket. When it got full to the top and we ran out of room we took the bucket off and tossed it on a house hold scale. Came out to 76.24 pounds!

Yeah I’m going to say that would hold your average AR. Surely going to hold my M&P-22.

I can’t tell what the attachment points are made from due to the coating but I’m going to guess it was probably not cast from pot metal. That would have snapped WAY before 76 pounds!

Guess I got my $10 dollars worth huh?

Knock off’s are certainly nothing new. I remember when Mr. Swan from ARMS (you know the mounts) had to post something on his webpage about not warrantying stuff NOT bought from authorized dealers. People were knocking off his ARMS mounts out of pot metal with full trademarks and they kept showing up on eBay, gunshows etc and people bought them not knowing they were fakes. Well, because they were cheap they broke and then they tried to warranty them which obviously they got denied.

Unfortunately, my friend told me that the factories making that stuff stepped it up a notch and started to make some decent quality counterfeits. It’s like we were just talking about at my friends house. If these “counterfeits” were meant for the “airsoft” market, they wouldn’t come in full retail packages. Airsofter’s wouldn’t give a crap about the packaging looking “cool”.

Anyway, watch out guys. Buy with caution!

Now you know why I only buy from very specific vendors.

The bootleg versions of gun gear is very very good at times. It’s scary have sound looking a fake can be.

Dont get screwed. Support reputable dealers.

As a rule, at gun shows, if they have one piece of airsoft shit on the table, assume everything is counterfeit.

Thats how I do it… Seen too many “I got burned with a gun show part” to ever take the chance.

The Chinese guys making the stuff are pretty honest about what they are selling. Hence why my friend was able to make a few calls to some people he knew there in Kowloon Hong Kong and get me the stuff so cheap.

The real problem is that a lot of the dealers here in the USA buying it know what they are buying and fully intend to sell it as the real stuff at full price.

I guess both ends can blame the other though. We could say well if they didn’t make it, and the Chinese could say well if the dealers in the USA didn’t ask for such perfect counterfeits, we wouldn’t make it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not totally bashing the counterfeits, I like some of them, I bought them, they are going to look nice on my M&P-22, but I KNEW what I was getting and paid “counterfeit” prices, not real retail. Also, I fully supports Magpul, Surefire, LaRue, etc. I have hundreds of dollars worth of all there real accessories too…

I have frequented HK 4 times with the kitty hawk. The “knock off” things are usually the same things we buy here just without the logo. I speak from the electronic side of things. Usb hubs ect. You can see and feel quality.
The american market is so fascinated with brands its amazing. Do you all really feel that cast of metal quad rail is really worth the $250. I for one think we get ripped hard for quality. Design isnt worth what we pay either imho. Just my 2 cents.

I guess in the larger scheme of things…the more money spent on counterfeit U.S. intellectual property is more money going overseas…and less money to the U.S. worker who designed, tested, manufactured, marketed, and sold the original product.

This cuts into the bottom line to pay workers salaries, insurance, develop new products/re-tooling, expand product line…etc.

My point is, I would sure hate to see those companies that developed their products go out of business because of counterfeit market financially prohibits them from developing new stuff (or continuing to build the current stuff)…say nothing of the U.S. vendors who are authorized retailers who have to keep an expensive inventory and are undercut by counterfeits…

Three things:
(a) a good portion of the higher prices we pay from buying from brand names goes to quality control and customer service that does not exist with these Chinese knock-offs. It’s your life on the line - don’t take unnecessary risks.

(b) the remaining portion pays for the R&D costs, the production equipment, and paying hard-working and patriotic Americans to produce a great, reliable product. When you buy Chinese knock-offs, you’re hurting our military-industrial base and helping theirs.

(c) when you’re buying these knock-offs, even if they are a decent copy, remember that they are copies. They ripped off the design and spent little to no intellectual effort in any development. This is intellectual property theft at its finest and by purchasing these products, you are actively supporting criminal activity. Does that make you feel good?

The air softers are partially to blame for all of this. I saw the other day that the Chinese were producing fake NARescue CAT tourniquets - who knows how many have worked their way into military medical response kits and now could fail upon use. Damn them to hell!

Now that is scary. Any way to tell the difference?

Fixed that for you. Fucking airsofters.

Wow - this is sad. I went onto the dreaded E-bay and started looking some of this stuff up. I must admit, it’s hard to tell some of these from the real-deal, especially if you don;t have the real deal to begin with. I couldn’t help but think that some of the Aimpoint Micros are not much better than one of the examples I found here. At least this place advertises them as replicas, but they still have a LaRue rollmark on the bottom and say Aimpoint on the top…I found this in about 30-seconds. It’s obvious - some may not be so…

http://cgi.ebay.com/QD-Aimpoint-Micro-T-1-Red-Green-Dot-Scope-airsoft-/280487698087?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item414e5e9ea7#ht_7313wt_712

Ebay should not allow selling of blatant counterfeits.

The issue with the sling hardware is it’s NOT Magpul produced or invented. The hardware (attachment points) are commonly available. So having a fake is not necessarily a bad thing as far as strength goes. I do not believe in buying cheap copies of anything though. To each his own I guess.

I agree - the same site has ACOG replicas that look pretty damned convincing. I also found LaRue SPR knock-offs as well…E-bay is anti, but it looks as if they know where and where not to look the other way. The only thing Trijicon I own is a TriPower and have only seen and used ACOGS up close on a few occasions. If I were John Q Uninformed, wandering through a gun show, I would be hard pressed not to think one of those ACOGS was not the real-deal…The Aimpoint Comp M2 and the magnifier look pretty convincing as well…

I would give you a direct link from ITS Tactical or the site that’s actually hosting the slideshow about it, 545ar.com, but both of those are blocked on military computers (I’m in the office at the moment). Here’s the link to the ITS Tactical article that I got from Google.
