So it turns out I am not liking my wifes new dog so much

Yeah, that’s it! She was too old to take care of it anymore. Didn’t have anything to do with its neurosis…

I’d take it for a walk. A really, really long walk.

Just joking. I’m a dog lover, but don’t care too much for the really small breeds.

Good luck!

A 27LB Shih Tzu? seriously step away from the food bowl… I don’t think I have ever seen one more than fifteen LBS.

It was rage, not obesity…that dog was solid muscle.

Man, I cannot stand those things. Drop it by my house. We have hungry coyotes nearby.

Do small dogs make you grow a vagina?

Just kidding, just kidding, don’t go having kittens I just couldn’t help myself.:stuck_out_tongue:

I like MY small dogs, but they are less independent than larger dogs and need more attention.

I cant help but recall a Big Lebowski quote “you brought the Pomeranian bowling!?”

We got a Corgi this last dog.

We’ve had big dogs all of my life, usually at or above 75-80 lbs.

But, my mom’s getting older (she’s not old by any means, she’s 56…) but, she doesn’t have as much time to take a larger dog on the walks they need, and she always struggled as a woman anyway lifting the dogs.

We found we needed a little dog, with a big dog personality.

We saw a bunch of different dogs, spent probably a year searching, and found the right one, she’s got a lot of energy, etc. Very intelligent, easy to train, well…

She learned that she doesn’t do anything without treats.

Again, intelligent. But, the dog’s been through obedience training, at first she was shy, bashful, etc, but her character came out.

That’s really what needs to happen, train the dog, and let it be socialized.

Best advice I saw.

I also like to stick with herding breeds/working breeds because they tend to be smarter and can do more outdoors stuff. Don’t have a lot of anxieties usually.

Some dogs are very high anxiety. I like them a bit more aggressive, and hardier.

That being said, I don’t plan on ever getting a little dog, but this dog wasn’t for me.

They are as useful as a shrub with legs. Their primary talent is the ability to roll on their back and piss in the air.

Lot’s of small dog hate I see.

My mother bought a poodle named Bailey almost 7 years ago. I’m a manly man and I always hated little dogs until I was actually around one. My top picks for dog’s would be a Rottweiler, Pit, Newfoundland, or Lab He is just the coolest little dog around, he doesn’t yap, and piss all over the place though. He scares easy with like loud noises and such but other than that he is cooler than hell. All my friends said the same stuff about hating little dogs until they met Bailey. He changed my mind about little dogs and I like all dogs (not that I would buy any type of dog). He hangs out with me quite a bit, I take him out sometimes over friends houses and what not. He is also a good catalyst for striking up conversations with some babes too

Dogs go belly up as a show of submission as is the urination. As a dog owner you want to be at the top of your “pack” but you don’t want your dog too be overly submissive… it should understand its role in your “pack” confidently.

Start by ignoring it’s submissive behavior. When it runs up to you when you get home from work, ignore it for a couple minutes. When you do greet it, crouch down as not to stand tall over it. If you crouch down and it goes belly up walk away.

With a dog like yours the best type of training is to ignore the behaviors you don’t like and praise the behaviors you do. It’s also possible that the dog was previously abused so speak soft etc until it’s comfortable.

small dogs are not evil… as some portrayed they are… i have a pom mixed and he is really good with my 2 kids. He is my first alarm system when someone knocks on the door or someone is outside the house. He is also my jogging partner but sometimes he gets lazy when i run long distances… My only complain is that he develops separation anxiety and he goes ballistic when i go to work. Other than that he is a really good dog and does not pee and poop all over the place.

Have you thought of getting your dog a companion dog ?
It just might need someone to play with, since the cats
seem to be way too cool for the mutt.

Exercise for pups is a cure-all.
Consider a crate for use when you want “it”. The dog will not object and may feel secure there.

There’s a 9 vs. 45 joke here somewhere.
