Sneak Peek of the Daniel Defense 7.62

I would prefer the chrome lined, as I would be much more leery of trying to dimple/flute/recontour a melonited barrel.

My thoughts exactly, and I would be buying one. Sadly they’ll be priced north of 2k which is out of my price range and I’ll keep on wishing I had an AR10.

With receivers becoming cheaper and more widely available, along with some reasonably priced AR10 barrel offerings from ballistic advantage and Faxon, the time to BUILD one for substantially less than you could buy one may be upon us…

Looks awesome. Might have to start filling up the piggy bank!

Pretty obvious the 5.56 market is saturated right now… It’s a logical move.

The rifle is 8lbs 3oz, I doubt anyone is going to be dimpling/fluting/recontouring it.

Really?
I only see an uphill battle trying to implement a proprietary barrel/upper assembly. With the lack of aftermarket accessories, one offs are a tough sell, fanboys not withstanding. JMO

What aftermarket accessories are you talking about? Plenty of aftermarket accessories could be used with it, anything keymod, trigger, stock, grip, safety, etc… .308 world is different world, you don’t see people asking to change their KAC SR-25 rail or their LMT MWS rail, just saying.

Is it 8.3 lbs. or 8 lbs. 3 oz.? Either way, ounces is pounds, and beyond that, I’m hoping to run such a thing as a suppressed battle rifle, and bring a scrawny son of a gun, lightweight appeals to me.

Wait and See and Save. After experimenting with Armalite, M1A, Colt, and LMT; I’m still waiting to find that unicorn: Lightweight, soft shooting, neighborhood of MOA, easily accessorized…oh and cheap. Price obviously being relative, a little more competition can only be good for the market. I look forward to those of you with more cash on hand doing solid review work before I jump on the bandwagon. Fingers crossed, though.

And it’s on the website: https://danieldefense.com/firearms/mid-length/daniel-defense-dd5v1.html

Looks like I was about right with the price. $2899 is whats listed.

The new DD5V1 is a groundbreaking, performance-driven platform engineered from muzzle to buttstock. Incorporating over a decade of expertise from industry-leading Daniel Defense engineers and designers, the DD5V1 establishes a whole new standard in the .308 platform. With innovative features like a 4-bolt connection system, an optimized upper receiver, an improved bolt carrier group, ambidextrous controls, a configurable modular charging handle, and a cold-hammer-forged barrel, the DD5V1—although built around a traditional AR platform— establishes a new tradition in 7.62 rifles. It also features a Geissele SSA two-stage trigger for precise fire control. Even with all of these features, plus a DD Superior Suppression Device and 15” Picatinny top rail, the DD5V1 weighs only 8.3 lbs. The new DD5V1 will be sure to deliver the accuracy, reliability, and durability expected from Daniel Defense.

Innovative 4-bolt connection system securely attaches free-floating CHF barrel and KeyMod handguard mounts securely to upper without barrel nut
Bolt and carrier designed with oversized cam pin, enhanced extractor geometry, and dual ejectors
Ambidextrous safety selector, magazine catch, bolt release, and configurable modular charging handle
Lower receiver features integral oversized trigger guard and flared magazine well for SR-25 type magazines
Geissele SSA 2-Stage Trigger with its smooth 2.5 lb take-up and clean 2 lb break

Sweet to see they added the Geissele trigger and that it takes SR-25 type mags, as well as being fully ambi.

Too rich for my blood. I was hoping it would be in the neighborhood of 2,000.

I think we will see a street price of $2300-$2500, I don’t think thats to bad really. Not sure if I would take it over a SCAR 17 but then again that’s not really apples to apples.

My WW308 is more accurate than that thing… with a green mountain barrel at that… or maybe its the dude behind the trigger. I’m no tactical elitist so the only thing DD I run are their CHF barrels.

Would love to have seen a lower MSRP as well
personally I’d also like to see an option for a shorter rail (i.e. one that does not extend to nearly the end of the barrel…questionable if you could mount a can direct to the threads with the rail shown)

IF S&W ever wises up and starts selling a 16" barreled version of the M&P 10 I’ll probably just go that route and add the accessories I want later

Right, and that’s just about where it should be.

I am totally high on this rifle. 16" cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel? Perfect set up!

My only question is how well it will run suppressed compared to the SR-25 APC and why they chose a mid-length gas system as opposed to a rifle length one

The specs on the barrel is cold hammer forged but not chrome lined. I’m assuming they’re salt bath nitride like the rest of their current barrels.

The majority of manufacturers of 16"-18" .308 carbines are mid gas. You rarely see rifle length gas on anything under 20" and never 16" as far as I know.

Not to be a skeptic, but for the expected street price what does this rifle do, that the already pretty well proven SCAR 17 doesn’t for more or less the same $$$?

I was really looking forward to an AR-10 style rifle for reasonable money that actually worked, as a more affordable alternative to the SCAR 17.
