So, I was out and about doing some sweat work this morning when I rolled by my house about 3:30pm. I walk around to the back door and go in. I’ve got alot of windows on the back of my place…so I’m washing up at the sink when I spot a groundhog waddling around out back. I run and grab my AR and ear pro and head for the door. I’m barefoot and sweat is dripping down my forehead. The groundhog is probably 50-60 yards away and he’s standing tall now. I flip the Aimpoint illumination up two notches (I keep it at “indoors” level). I take aim and squeeze.
BOOOM!! Direct hit and he begins to roll down the hill.
I run over to check and see where I got him and if I need to put him out of his misery. By the time I got over there, he wasn’t moving at all. Black Hills 75gr. OTMs work on varmints with four legs too!!

Now I know why the anti’s are so anti. You see, they’re alot like varmints. And obviously when a varmint just sees an AR they shit the bed.

I’ve got 30 acres and it’s mowed for hay. These little varmints like to dig HUGE holes right out in the middle. Many a tractor and driver have been turned over by a ground hog hole. So…that’s why I take them out.
Nice pics, I wish I could shoot in my backyard. I could, but only once…the guy who lives behind would probably look like the last pic. Then the cops would be called and my fun would end.
If land owners were aware of the diseases their live stock or kids could contract
when overpopulations of marmots prevail…they might be a little more lenient
in letting responsible folks hunt that land…imo
That poor little groundhog!! What did he ever do to you?
JUST KIDDING!!
Good shooting. I kept hearing Queen’s “Another one bites the dust” ring in my head while I was scrolling through your images. I could have done without the poop-closeup pic though.
Here in Southern Oregon we only have little digger squirrels! Using a AR on the buggers is overkill! So when I see one of the vermon on my property I grab the 17HMR. Thanks for the pics! I enjoyed them… and wish we had some ground hogs around here… just not on my 10 arces
17 HMR, my next favorite B.U.G. I’ve got a place where we shoot squirrels by the dozens, and there’s nothing more fun than a saturday afternoon and a bolt action 17.
