Just picked up a S&W M&P Shield I will be putting it thru its paces.
Let me know your opinion if you have one or want to get one.

I wouldn’t mind trying one, but I would much prefer a model without the safety. I actually just purchased a Walther PPS because of the safety.
I handled one and it felt very good except I found it to be very slippery, I would have to add some Talon “black rubber” grips to it. JMHO
Don’t want a pistol with a manual safety. I also have questions about the unexpected number of kabooms on the .40 Shield as mentioned on the S&W forums.
Not for me, but they’re really nice guns.
The thinness becomes irrelevant once it’s in a holster, as the holsters end up almost as bulky as those for double stacks, unless of course the VG2 for the Shield ever comes out. IMO of course.
I’m also kind of uncomfortable with it only holding nine rounds. Also not a fan of manual safeties as Hmac stated, but it can be removed so I don’t view that as a hindrance to ownership.
.40 S&W blowing up guns is nothing new. I don’t use that cartridge so I don’t see that as an issue either.
If I lived in California or Florida I would use one with a Dark Star Gear clip on AIWB with board shorts and a white T. Or if I was a female and wore form fitting clothes.
I love my shield. I carry it when I’m not in nj and it just disappears aiwb in a generic Blackhawk holster. It’s a 9mm with about 250 rounds thru it with one fte in the first 50 rounds that I believe was from a limp wrist. I don’t use the safety on it and it’s so low profile I don’t think it will ever click on.

I’m pretty pleased with my .40 S&W Shield. There isn’t another pistol I’d rather carry for CCW.

i have been thinking about getting one in 9mm. you can also removed the thumb safety with no ill effects. I read somewhere, maybe here, that S&W is coming out with LEO shields that will have no safety and a block where the safety was.
The thumb safety detent is very aggressive. This means it takes a very deliberate motion to actuate the safety. I keep mine off and it stays there. It will not accidentally switch on.
I only keep mine off because it’s a very small low pro safety lever. I would actually prefer a larger actuator. Like a 1911’s safety.
I prefer safeties on my firearms. Have one on my m&p and 1911. It becomes second nature and doesn’t effect my speed.
I love my shield. Carry it everyday at about 1:30. Threw in an apex sear, night sights, and stippled it.

I have had my shield since they first came out. (700 + rounds ) have not had any issue at all. I carry it everyday, very comfortable in a crossbreed mini tuck. Have noticed that the mag release is steel and has started to rust. Just pulled it out and hit with some CLP and got it cleaned up. Just another step in the weekly maintenance.
Carry my Shield 9 appendix style in Crossbreed, safety always off. 200 rounds and nary a glitch, very accurate.
Brrrrr
I will be getting one as soon as I save up enough cash. Come on tax refund!
I felt mine needed a few mods to be what I wanted it to be. I removed the manual safety lever and associated parts, Stippled the front and back straps, undercut the trigger guard, and performed a trigger job. I’m liking it a lot now. I am currently at 350 issue free rounds. Trigger is ~4.75 lbs
I don’t think I’ve been w/o a G26 or G19 on me for a few years. I don’t need anything thinner or with fewer bullets. But I’m happy for those who needed it and it works.
I have the 9mm shield. Owned it for several weeks before I even knew a safety was on it. I leave it off. This gun is very easy to shoot well, and the thin factor is huge to me.
I bought one, got all excited about it, and now… never carry it.
The thinness is nice, but it’s just not big enough of a difference for me to choose it over my full size m&p. However, I’ll keep it around for circumstances that require form-fitting clothes.
Much more comfortable in a Smartcarry than my G26.
This…
I seriously dont understand why people get so bent out of shape about safeties on pistols. Leave it off if you don’t like it. The regular M&p line also makes it very easy take it out… I think this whole no safety thing gets a little out of hand. When will running a rifle or shotgun with out a saftey become acceptable? When Glock makes a rifle?
As for the Shield, I personally don’t think it saves you much over the 9c. Plus it’s larger in the worst spot…the grip length
I guess I should re-phrase… Safeties on CCW guns terrify me. ![]()
It’s just one more thing that could go wrong.
“Leave it off”… Chance clothing flips it on during draw would concern me.
Never have to even THINK about that with my glocks…
Nothing against the Sheild, it’s a nice gun, just not something I would carry concealed.
To each their own.
