Smith & Wesson was established in 1852 in Connecticut before it soon moved its headquarters to Springfield, Massachusetts. Now, the firearm manufacturer calls Maryville, Tennessee, home after holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday at its new 650,000-square feet headquarters.
Welcome to Tennessee! Patron State of Shootin’ Stuff.
Probably the best firearms manufacturer I ever did business with. When I did the Barrett Group buy they gave me a price based upon shipping everything to a single FFL. But my group buy ended up coinciding with a CA .50 ban and I ended up with a LOT of people from CA getting in on the group buy as a result. When it started to look like the ban might go into effect before I could receive and reship rifles, Barrett volunteered to ship directly to the FFLs of any buyer in CA and as a result everyone involved got their rifles right under the line before the law went into effect.
And as much as every firearms manufacturer “claims” to care more about second amendment freedoms above everything else, I can tell you guaranteed that not many would have done the same. Barrett has consistently “walked the walk” more than almost anyone else. The very same company told the state of CA they would no longer provide or service weapons for any government entity that denied the same to their citizens.
Not many manufacturers tell states the size of CA to take their gov’t and LE purchases and FO. They turned their back on a lot of purchases that day.
2000’ish, S&W had an outlet store about an hour away in Pigeon Forge(think there were a few more around the country) where deactivated pistols could be handled and full msrp paid for a certificate to take to an ffl to receive a live pistol. This was around the time S&W was on the verge of being sold due to collaborating with the Clintons so all of their pistols were getting blown out by CDNN and other distributors.
Yep, I still remember receiving my “dealer agreement” from S&W and telling them to get bent. I’m to this day hesitant to recommend a S&W product to a customer and will only do if a Shield 2.0 really is the best carry option for their budget and needs. I don’t personally own any S&W product made after that time, all of mine are P&Rs. If somebody wants a M&P rifle, I do everything I can to recommend a Colt.
I also remember them pushing that “smart gun” bullshit.
nevermind… I just read that they missed the deadline in Little Rock’s Port area along the river to begin construction on their planned manufacturing facility. My bad, I was incorrect. But Sig and a boatload of custom 1911 makers (Wilson Combat, Nighthawk Custom, and Guncrafter)!!
