Smith & Wesson M&P15orc vs M&P15 Sport???

I am looking to buy my first AR. i was originally going to build but seems like there out of stock of everything on PSA. right now this would be my OTD price in California. I am going to use this rifle as my range plinker, Home Defense, SHTF. i read some good reviews on the sport, it eats anything you give it. I read that the M&P15 can be picky on the ammo. i want to buy a gun thats going to last for a really long time. i will be mounting a Aimpoint CompM2 on the rifle

M&P15 ORC = $1009
M&P15 Sport= $739

The Price difference is $270 For

-FA Assist
-Dust Cover
-Chromed lined Barrel
-Chromed Lined Bore

if i were to swap the upper on the sport to get the FA Assist,Dust Cover and it will still be cheaper than $270 lol

wondering what you guys might recomend Sport or ORC

I own a S&W M&P sport and have run about 4-500 rounds through it so far and it has been very reliable. In fact the only time I had failures with the gun was the first time I shot it at my LGS and I didn’t have a chance to properly lubricate the gun. I had a few failure to feed with some cheap Tula ammo but have since shot steel case and brass after proper lubrication and it hasn’t skipped a beat since. Of course your purchase depends on what you intend to use it for and possibly your location. For example, you might want a dust cover if you shoot in an area where you could get a lot of sand in your gun but the FA doesn’t seem all that necessary. Then again if you intend to run it hard and abuse it, you might want to look into something like BCM, Colt, DD (if you can find it or any AR for the matter).

I like the Sport of these two, more money to then spend on bullets which you will need with demand the way it is now…

so i went down to turners they only had 3 ar15 on display a colt 6940 ,franklin armory, and dpms. i guess i lucked out i put a deposit down on the S&W M&P15 orc before they sold out so im getting mine for sure and my friend put a deposit down on the windham weaponry which is pretty much exactly the same as the S&W except for the barrel steel grade S&W 4140. Windham 4150. he is kinda hoping that they get more M&P’s before he has to go pick up his ar lol

This was my thought as well. How did both you and your friend pass up the Colt, especially the way shit is going right now.

no not really if they had the 6920 for $1099 i would have payed the extra $250 more but the $1599plus tax on that 6940 is to much for me right now. i asked how long will it take to get me a colt they said anywhere from 3 to 12 weeks and they where being optimistic lol

well Money is the only reason why we both passed on the colt lol going from $899 to $1599 and thats before taxes, its to much of a difference.

Fair enough, 1600$ for the 6940 sounds kind of retarded. But then again 900$ for a S&W sounds the same way.

We’ll here in southern california that’s the average price on S&W but I know they sell cheaper elsewhere lol
