I picked up a smith & wesson m&p15 811000 off of gunbroker for only $800. It is one hell of a rifle right out of the box. Anyone else own one here and how do you like yours? One question I have is is the buffer tube mil-spec or commercial spec?

Actually please let me know too lol im pretty sure its Milspec but i can not be sure, and i love mine, shoots great never any problems so far 1000+ rounds threw it since i got it in oct but i changed a few things on it

I did a check on a S&W M&P X and all the parts were milspec on it. I believe the bolt was also MPI

Yes the bolt is MPI and i wasnt sure from what i can tell on my standard M&P 15 the tube does appear to be mil spec but i dont know the specs off hand

The easiest way to tell is to see if the back end of your extension is flat or is slanted towards the rifle. Or you could measure it.

S&Ws have mil-spec receiver extensions.

Great rifle, but you can get better for that price. What really sets S&W back is the barrel, which only has a 1x9" twist rate, is not individually MPI’d, and is made out of 4140 steel.

If you buy it, you might want to eventually swap out the barrel for one from BCM or DD. But for the price you’d pay for that upgrade, you could have bought a better rifle in the first place.

The new S&W 15TS will have a 1/7 twist barrel, magpul flip ups, moe stock and grip and the mid-length Troy TRX battle rail. Should be a sound weapon platform. Its model number for Smiths website is 811024 and is slated to be released next month.

I have a MP15 have replaced the trigger with a SSA, replaced the carbine stock with a fixed, used PMC 55g, Federal 5.56 NATO.and Hornady 75g match grade. Nothing does not seam to help it produce a shot group, that would be good. I am now thinking about replacing the barrel and handquards…My friends DPMS carbine shoots better groups than this SW…
