Im looking to keep the overall length of my firearms as short as possible so that it will fit into my patrol vehicles rack. At this time it fits fine with not flash hider on at all however it looks like crap. Anyone out there have any short/small flash hiders?
I think the standard A2 is the shortest. Hold on, there’s a picture…
The AAC is the best overall length vs performance.
In order: A2, Phantom I think, Vortex, AAC Blackout, I forget, PWS, A1
Edit: For a patrol gun, I’d recommend the AAC or Vortex. Bad guys come out at night. You don’t want to give away your position or blind yourself with flash.
You could either get a shorter barrel upper or a thread protector in 1/2-28" from brownells or a silencer company.

Like mark said, you could get a short (12", 10.5", 7") barrel without all the paperwork since you are LE. I’m not all that privy on the details though.

Dept. owned rifles still require paperwork, and in some States (like here in Ala.) individually owned SBR’s are a no-go altogether.
As previously stated All NFA Rules apply to individual officers. The same rules that apply to “civilian” ownership of NFA weapons. The rules apply to L/E Departments as well, they just use different forms for their tax free transfers. Agencies can also own F/A weapons manufactured after the 1986 ban.
PWS TTO is shorter than an A2, but it is a flash ENHANCER.
PWS also make an FSC556 QDSS which is a short version of the FSC556 that is intended for mounting the QDSS suppressor and it combines the recoil reduction and flash suppression of the standard FSC556 (about 90% of both when compared to the FSC556. I have one on my carbine and it works great…a little flash at night but nothing that would get into the optic view. The TTO is shorter but as 87GN mentioned it is a flash enhancer!
