Hey guys, I am looking to a mod to my Matech to keep the post from popping up every few shots, what I am looking for is a small wire and clamp like those used to hold battery caps and adjustment caps on eotechs and acogs. Does anyone know where you can buy these?
The little friction detent on a Matech will wear… the most common cause is a technical term knows a dickingwithittoomuch.
You can “stake” the detent and get more life out of it… or you can replace the sight. Make sure the pin is not walking out, other than that you get what you pays for.
Well my fiancee did recenetly tell me I am the only person who could break an otter box…I have a bad habbit of messing with moveable things that click, Everyone one of our remotes has tape holding the battery cover on if that says anything…
What I was thinking was mounting the wire to the sight as a way to hold it down, and to deploy it you push it down fully then move the wire so it can deploy. I actually like the sight and got it new for $30.
My Otterbox for my iPod is the worst money I have ever spent…
You can loop a piece of wire or wire tie around the windage adjustment screw on both sides and cross over the top of the post to hold it down… crude, but it works.
Thats exactly what I was planning, I was just going to make it fancy with the wire and clamp like in the pic above, but I honestly have idea where to get them.
Now that I think about I have some zip ties that may just work(use them on computers i build)
To answer the original question: You can fing small gauge wire and the crimp/clamps at any Home Depot or Lowes. The clamps require a crimping tool which they sell in the same section, or if your feeling lucky you can use any old pliers laying around and squeeze the heck out of the clamps.
IMO: If you rifle is just for play time do what you like, but if its a go to I’d just replace the sight with a new one. Looks like you got your $30.00 worth out of the old one.
As stated above make sure the pin isnt walking. It should be flush with the main body of the sight. If it is the case you can push it back with a flathead screwdriver or razor blade and the sight will lock down again tight for a few deployments. The pin will walk again so it’s not a total fix but works.
The single biggest issue with Matechs has already been stated. It’s the fact that the pin walks and allows the aperature tower to become off axis and not grab the detent.
I happen to love Matechs though.
How I prevent this is by dissasembling the entire sight, and lightly grinding a little bit off of one end of the pin. Then, when re-assembling, I use an auto punch to stake the body and capture the pin so it can’t walk. I do it both sides as well so it can’t walk either way.
I’ve used Matechs for 6 years now, including one that went through a deployment in the box, and with this little mod, none of the ones I owned or have owned have ever had the errant flip up issue.
The nub wears with time. You can either replace the sight with a better one, or peen the nub back into form enough to retain the upright in the closed position.
