Slings

So, after 30 or so years since I’ve owned one, I buy this new LE6920 Colt M4. My last AR was an SP1. Now I find the new technology and related names for it all the after market accessories is rather daunting for an old guy. First trip to the range after cleaning, it won’t cycle consistently and at 25 yards it shoots about 6 feet OVER the target. Crap. I had to raise the front sight until it almost fell out before I (or the range master, a Vietnam vet) could even hit the target. Saying I was disappointed (pissed) is a fair statement. After a few days of thought I decided what I was going to do. I was never a fan of the carry handle (personal taste) so I take it off. My current plan was to add flip down sights and Eotech optics. I ordered Troy battle sights and a troy 11" forward handguard. I’m waiting for it to arrive. Now, I start looking for a sling. Geesh, now I see one point, two points, padded or not, and all kinds of attaching parts. I think I even saw a crotch sling somewhere! Anyway, I’m confused again. I could use some simple, easy to understand (geezer speak) tips and recommendations. Thanks guys, I’m off to bed.

Tell us what you plan to do with the carbine. Do you need a sling to carry it from the car to the bench? Are you patrolling your land? Climbing over obstacles? Etc…

Get a proctor sling if you want simple

I’m a bit of a prepper. That said, I would like to be able to sling it, freeing up my hands. Hike with it, etc. When I go to the range, it’s in a case. Thanks

Vcas by blue force gear. It’s a 2pt.

It’s easy to setup, fast to put on, and can be setup to do anything.

I tried single point and ditched it real quick. Too loose and not enough control of the gun when slung.

The vcas 2pt has a tab you pull to cinch the sling tight or loosen. I keep it loose to throw on, can trinity on shoulders and to a pistol if I need. I can cinch it tight and sprint and still shoulder the gun While tight, just not transition shoulders.

Google and YouTube will show differences.

No experience with proctor sling.

Definitely a 2 point sling is the way to go. Padding is a personal preference, but on a 16" carbine with an eotech its probably not all that necessary in my opinion. Without having to buy quick detach sling swivels and extra hardware, the proctor sling that dramabeats suggested is a great option. It gives you an easy attachment method that you can change to your liking, and its quickly adjustable. It too gets my vote.

2 Pt. Vickers Padded Combat Sling from Blue Force Gear.

I pretty much stopped buying anything but this. I think I own nine of them now. Every time Ashley puts some of them on clearance when they close out a color, I buy them and stash them. Then when I do a new build, I dig them out. I could care less what color a sling is.

But getting a VCAS on sale for 50 percent off - priceless!

+1

I have the non-padded version on my rifles but I’m generally wearing plenty of layers (winter while hunting) or armor. Padding is a plus for the self proclaimed geezer with a case of the preps.

Hope it works well for you and welcome to the board!

Can anyone give a comparison between the MS1 and VCAS?

I like the Magpul MS1 and Original SOE 2-point.

I am happy with the Vtac padded sling myself. That or the vcas is the way to go.

VCAS, and the Proctor for simple and effective slings.
Since I sometimes use the sling for shooting support while in the prone or sitting positions, I’ll opt for the Ares MK2 or VTAC.

I probably wouldn’t bother with a sling for a rifle that doesn’t cycle and shoots 6 feet high. Between Colt and Aimpoint you’re having some rash of bad luck. Weird.

Once you get that all sorted out, I can say that I really like my unpadded VCAS. Once I used an adjustable 2 point I hate everything else for a tactical rifle.

Agreed.

Simple to adjust. Simple to attach. I got my last one from mark5pt56. I don’t know why he sold it :neo:

This, after buying one for my HD rifle I had to buy a few more.

Vickers VCAS, the only decision you need to make is color and if you want padded or not.

I have a padded VCAS, and it works great as a general use tactical sling.

But I’ll throw out a vote for the new(ish) FTW carbine/mutli-use sling. It has a similar slider on it for lengthening and shortening, but it also works as a passable loop sling if needed.

If you want to carry it like a more traditional rifle sling, not across the chest, I really like the Short Action Precision (SAP) positional sling.

+1 VTAC padded 2pt

After getting one of the new Magpul MS1 padded slings, I sold all of my other slings. For me at least, it has set a new standard.
