What sling does single and double point attachment well, and is “low-noise”. Things that attach with a hook/clip can be noisy.
Also, is there a sling swivel on the regular front mount on an M4 which allows a sideways attachment (Kar98 style), or must you use the handguard (MOE/Rail)?
The quietest way to attach is to simply thread the sling webbing through a slot. Pushbutton QD swivels are pretty quiet, too, and make it easier to detach the sling.

Generally, no, but M4’s set up for attaching a 203 have a barrel mount side swivel side that’s separate from the front sight block.
I run a MS2 sling/ASAP attachment with Impact Weapon Components sling mount on a MOE handguard. Maybe it’s the manner in which I run it, maybe it’s the fact that due to my upper body size that it looks like a Father wearing his Son’s gear, but I never have “noise” running this rig. It is my primary weapon… 11.5 SBR.
I’ve been using a VTAC two point padded sling and a noveske end plate. With the sling attached on the opposite side of my sopmod and the other socket in the noveske endplate it’s pretty close to a single point though not exact. You can then simply push the button out of the socket, remove it from the endplate and run it on a different attachment point towards the front of your handguard and shazaam a proper 2 point.
I use the Israeli slings across the board. Attach them with ParaCord and they’re cheap, versatile, simple, and silent. And they allow for tactical style carry as well as any two point carry method.
I’d suggest the Magpul MS2 sling (or wait until the MS3 is out). It has the ability to go from 1-point to 2-point like you want. As for the “low noise” requirement, I’m not entirely sure what you mean. If you have QD swivels or an endplate like the ASAP, they’re going to be noisy and clank and rattle around when you’re not using a sling. I find, however, that when you are using a sling and there is tension/weight hanging on the sling/rifle, there’s nothing to clank or slap around, and hence no noise issue.
As for a sideways attachment point, there are a few companies like Gear Sector that make a rail mounted QD swivel point which would fulfill what you’re asking for.
I can live with 2 point only - if it is “quiet” - in other words, run the sling through slots on the stock and front sight post or other attachment up front . I have seen rigs attached to a slot on the SIDE of the forend - I guess that would be acceptable if in the rear of the forend - that would be out of the way with most shooting, but I may still be able to get my left hand behind it.
Quiet means it is quiet in the woods, on patrol, etc. Pre-combat checks don’t let you out of the patrol base until you are silent. I guess that precludes lots of the “combat stuff” I see today.
I think you are making too much out of the quiet sling stuff. Any sling will work. It is not the sling type that makes it quiet, it is what the operator does to make it quiet. Metal buckles get taped or removed. Use 550 cord to attach the rifle, or go without a sling. I never used a sling on patrol while in the active military, since the Ranger Bn SOP was not to use slings. I disagreed with that idea, but I went without a sling and it worked fine. They know better today…
The majority of slings today will do just fine. The ones with more plastic than metal parts will do better.
There is a lot more to being silent than slings.
BTW, I think you are using “patrol base” out of context unless they changed things since I was in Ranger School. A PB is outside the wire, when you are on Patrol. You are in combat per se, so your pre combat inspections are done way before…combat.
We had a guy running an MS2 in our AK class a couple weeks ago.
By the end of the class he was hurting. They are to t hin and can twist, which means they cut into your shoulder badly.
I have seen some nice VCAS conversions to make them single/double.
On follow-on missions you still need a preop check - we did them as well as possible in the PB. Yes - in Ranger School we did it inside wire in the formal sense first…
Thanks - roger, more plastic is good in the noise sense.
BTW - looks like the Colt models come WITH a front site side mount - anyone sell them?
I have been very tempted to try to convert my VTAC sling to a convertible single point/two point sling. I like the padding because my N4 low pro recce is a pig in terms of weight when you carry it too long.
With the DD carbine you have I don’t think the thinner slings would bother you as much.
I too found the MS2 uncomfortable as it even cut into my big frame. However, about a 14" long piece of 1" nylon tubing slipped over it, cured all that.
