As an AR n00b I discover what a castle nut is, the staked kind.
I aborted after using an armorer’s wrench to try and remove the stock castle nut.
I just didn’t feel comfortable removing and attaching another one that’s not staked (unless I stake it).
So I’m thinking about maybe going with something like a Magpul MS1 (or MS whatever, open to suggestions) or something similar.
The thinking is I’ll attach it to the Omega 7 and then to the SOPMOD stock somewhere?
That’s about the extent of my knowledge. Am I missing something or is it just a matter of getting the sling and some adapters and attaching them to one or both of those points as I’m not really sure if I’m a single point or a two point sling guy yet.
I did see where the Magpul can be used as either with some adapters maybe.
I’m open to basically whatever as I’m pretty limited on AR knowledge here.
Correct. A VTAC two-point sling with an Omega rail and Magpul SL stock (similar to your Bravo) is how my Patrol rifle is configured. Versatile and effective.
Don’t overthink this. It all comes down to a matter of personal preference.
Go pick up a quality two point sling from BFG VCAS, VTAC, Magpul, Proctor Way of the Gun, or Ferro Concepts and attach it. The standard spots are the rail next to the receiver and on the stock.
Go shoot the gun. Shoot it a lot. Figure out what works for you.
You are most likely better served with a two point sling. If you still think you might want a single point, pick up a IWC tri glide adaptor that lets you convert nearly any two point into a single point on the fly.
My personal setup(s)
BFG VCAS or Rifles Only Carbine Sling (Prefer the VCAS)
Attach at the outside rear of the stock
Two forward points, one next to the receiver, preferably at a 45 degree angle upwards, and one at the bottom front of the rail. The second one is because I sometimes like to use slings as traditional marksmanship aids, and this point works better for me.
Well if you’re up for improvements, get another QD socket to put farther toward the end of your handguard. The rifle will have less movement when sling is tightened down and you’re hands off. You will also be able to use the sling to brace the rifle for more accurate distance shots.
+1
won’t get in the way as much when you shoulder it as well
I prefer the forward attachment point closer to the receiver personally (where it is now), but try both and see what works for you. Any setup that doesn’t get in your way or slap a mag or rifle part into your groin is good.
And, the sling is also generally out of the way for reloads if it is properly adjusted and the front attachment is far enough forward towards the muzzle end of the rifle.
I have a few VTAC & VCAS slings, both are equally outstanding quality. I prefer the VTAC simply because I’m faster with it and shoot better with it. You will love it, it’s a great choice.
I’ll second this, I have two RM1s, an RM2 and recently an HLX. They are good to go. Huge bang for the buck just like the other ProTac series.
And if you are still looking for sling options, I highly recommend the Proctor QD Sling. The VTAC is great but Proctor’s is lighter, simpler, same width and about $60 cheaper than the VTAC if you’re factoring in the two ALG QD swivels. The VTAC will adjust a little easier but it’s not hard to get used to grabbing the triglide vs. a pull tab or lanyard.
