So, I have a new VTAC Extreme rail… and a DD rail sling point… and initially I used the sling point on the bottom (comes built into the long rail), and it made the rifle want to flop over all the time.
Then I put the DD rail sling point on top of the rail, and the rifle hangs naturally. The QD sling point and shackle don’t interfere with the sight picture, and can even be put behind a flip-up front sight without it interfering.
When shouldering the weapon, you can pull the sling tight, holding it along the hanguard, nothing pokes in a bad direction.
When I used an FSB with the sling point on the bottom, the sling would slide to the end of it, and it would hang more naturally, but with the QD points, the gun feels top-heavy. You can run a rail piece and QD point on either side, but that seems a little cumbersome.
Thanks, and I appreciate the lesson coming to me.
Again, this isn’t for home defense, it’s on a range toy that I might do some 3-gun with if I get the time. But I’m not sure it would interfere with sights either, unless you wrapped the sling around the fsb intentionally.
