sling attachment? & stock question?

would like to use a single point or 2 point, is it better to have the rear connection at the rear of the receiver or on the stock like a CTR?

which brings me to the next question… CTR or MOE?

If i don’t need the attachment point on the stock i will go MOE to save a few dollars unless the anti friction is justifiable that much more of a necessity. Is the CTR friction lock any trouble to operate? come loose.

I really don’t want to break the castle nut loose as it is really staked good…but i will if i just have to…that’s why i sometimes lean to the CTR.

Thanks!

I like my front and rear sling attachments points as close to the receiver as possible, like so:

In regard to CTR versus MOE, I have several of both. If you will be mounting to a mil-spec extension there isn’t much wobble and if you are not going to use the QD sling attachment point then the MOE makes sense. If you think you will use the QD attachment point then get the CTR. The friction lock is a non-issue for me.

I probably will not buy any more CTR stocks now that the MOE is out. The MOE does everything I need.

Some folks like their sling mounting points close in, I prefer them to be further out. I’ve heard and seen some of the arguments each way, and I’m sticking with the rear sling mount on the stock. I feel like I have better control over a slung weapon with sling mounting points as far out as possible, and with the rear sling point far to the rear, it’s much easier to kick out of the sling if need be.

The main advantage of the receiver mounted rear sling point, as I see it, is the ability to easily switch shoulders. Kinda like the argument people make for using single point slings. Switching shoulders can be easily and quickly done with a two point and spread sling mounts with just a bit of practice.

For a single point sling, the receiver end mounting plates are the best option as they give you some leverage over the slung weapon with a simple inward rotation. A single point at the end of the stock lets the gun flop around too much.

CTR vs MOE: I never thought I’d use the QD mount points on a Vltor or CTR, but once I did I found myself liking the feature. With a Victory sling with QDs on each end, I can switch my sling between my primary and backup gun quite easily.
