So I’m getting ready to shoot my first “non-clay pigeon shooting sport event” at the beginning of May. I’ll be using a mid-length AR-15 with a rifle-length rail and an A2 stock.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a sling/mounting hardware for said sling, and why (i.e. benefits of said sling, etc).

rifle match is a pretty broad term- a cmp/nra bullseye match? 3-gun or ipsc style? F-class? benchrest? something else? need to know more to give suggestions
Vickers 2 points seem to be the golden standard of 2 point slings. They work well, are easy to adjust, and can be made to fit a variety of mounting points. Ive a few and like them a lot.
Id stay away from 3 point slings. They add unnecessary webbing that interferes with operation of the gun because of the 3rd strap that runs along side the gun.
It will be 7 stages from 1-300 yards, mostly ar15’s, some will shoot ak’s.
If you are talking 7 stages 100-300 yards, it sounds like it may be based on a national match course (10 round slow offhand,10 rounds rapid sit, 10 rounds rapid prone,20 rounds slow prone) if that is the case then a turner saddlery national match sling is the way to go(not useful for anything else really however) if it is more a tactical run and gun match then I say 2 point sling of any type will do. After 2 deployments being issued both 1 ,2 and 3 point slings the 2point is the way to go.

+1 - I have leather Springfield Sling on my M1 and a Vickers 2 pt on the AR…FWIW
Excellent, thanks guys. I guess I’ll order a Vickers 2-point sling then. Any preferences as to mounting options? A2 buttstock, full length quadrail forend, no built in sling mount up front.

It seems that the Vickers 2-point is the one to go with for today, you and I both saw the previous replies pointing us in that direction.

I want somethng in a brown or green, I just ordered all the MOE parts in Foilage Green, so I would like to stay with that.
So now we know that Grant can not immediately help my needs, who should I look at for this thing? Botach is no good, LA Police Gear is a no-go, Bravo Company fails, Global Tactical no good… so where do I go from here?

Unlike the OP who has a rifle stock, I have a 6 position Magpul MOE going on mine next week, so I should be able to wrap right into that. I also have a rail mounted to my Front Sight “A” frame for my TLR-1 and on the other side is a rubber coated steel sling mount, so I ask… is this an acceptable way to mount the sling? Go from the MOE to the front sight on my 16" Carbine?
Let me know what one of those BlueForce Gear slings is what you all consider the “Vickers 2-Point Sling” so I can try and get one zooming along in a UPS truck!

Good Call! I shoot a match similar to what you are describing and the only reason I use a sling is for carrying the weapon. I use Blue Force/Vickers 2 Point Slings with QD swivels.
A lot of guys prefer a single point with a QD because of the tactical considerations for CQB. Either way you go, there is a good chance that you will not need your sling to shoot with. In case you do, I would rather have the 2 point to work with FWIW.
