Yesterday I bought a Regent 1911 on the cheap. I am a 1911 noob and wanted to find something cheap to start on (could end up biting me in the ass).
The gun seems to function fine so long as you don’t have a magazine in. When you put an empty magazine in, the slide will not go forward. I tried sling shotting it, using the slide release, and both met with no result. I remove the magazine and everything functions properly. I have yet to take the firearm to the range.
Is this a magazine issue or a gun/fit issue? I am clueless in regards to this model of firearm.
How new are you to semi-auto pistols? Any modern pistol will be unable to close the slide on an empty magazine using normal methods. 1911s, SIGs, M&Ps, Glocks, Berettas, etc. with empty magazines in place will not allow you to close the slide because the follower in the magazine locks the slidestop/release in place. If you put enough force on it you can close the slide on an empty magazine. You shouldn’t let the slide slam close on an empty chamber on your 1911, anyway. Have you shot the pistol yet?
I’m assuming because he said he tried to shoot it, he inserted a loaded mag as well though, which should stop the slide stop from activating.
He specifically says empty magazine and mentions nothing about a loaded magazine. OP, do you have any other information?
No, he said he had yet to take it to the range…
Your pistol is functioning as designed. You can still close the slide on an empty mag but it will require you to pull the slide back to the rear and then depress the slide stop.
I would highly recommend taking a introduction to firearms course at your local range before you go much further. It is vital for you to at least understand the basic fundamentals of your firearm before you are on the line with others…
I have used a Glock 21 extensively and revolvers. The mag is always empty yes but even when I have pulled the slide back and depressed the slide release it is still too tight. Taking it to the range today. If everything functions as it is supposed to then I will release it was user (my helmet head haha) issue.
The reason I have been so nervous is that I have heard of issues with these issues but it was a very good deal. I am the type of guy that doesn’t like to waste a dime so I just want to make sure the firearm functions as it is supposed to.
Thanks for the advice, gents. I will come back and let you know how it goes.
DOH!!
My bad for reading on an iPhone. He said sling shooting it and I thought he just said tried shooting it.
Why do you need to go to the range? put a loaded mag in and powerstroke or hit the slide release. See if it works. Just point it in a safe direction and practice good gun safety especially because your gun will then be loaded! My m&p’s can be forced to close the slide on an empty mag but i avoid it. If you want to practice reloads at home get snapcaps and your good to go.
