I enjoyed this one very much.

I was relieved that Bond was a human again and not a superhuman spider monkey. The last few Bond films had him doing ridiculous special effect jumps that pulled me out of the movie.

In Casino Royale the first chase scene where Bond is after Mollaka the bomb maker (the guy he later executes in the embassy) was based on a real sport called Parkour. Mollaka was played by Sébastien Foucan one of the founders of Parkour. Those scenes were REAL with a stunt double in place of Craig.

I’ve seen Parkour and Free Running, very cool stuff. The jump from one crane to the next was ridiculous, I was sure it was fake when I saw it in the theater, but my googling makes me believe it was real. I need to watch those movies again.

I loved that. I remember seeing District B13, and seeing David Belle do Parkour.

I always thought that the P7 would’ve been a fitting gun for Bond.

In the 007 books by John Gardner in the 80’s, Bond carried a P7 and drove a Saab 900 Turbo.

I suppose I’ll have to be the voice of dissent here. I’m glad Connery didn’t have a cameo. Putting him in a role like Kincade or the new M would have been too ham-handed, especially with all the more subtle references. Fitting him in as the cop on the bridge or as a member of Parliament would have been more fitting.

As for the gun. Yeah, something like a PPQ would have been better. Maybe an HK P-series. Is it too much to ask for a concealable European gun in 9mm?

My take on Craig is that he plays a Bond with a good mix of grit and action, combined with just enough sarcastic wit to carry on the one liners that Connery started with. I also liked that they started to make Bond show his age. The days of freerunning through construction sites are over; he’s getting older, and has to show a little more guile, but he’s still a blunt instrument.

With Bond entering the new M’s office for the first time, and with introducing Moneypenny (good choice!), they set up nicely for another installment… or a reboot if it wasn’t well received.

Worth seeing.

Heck, in the Gardner books, he also kept a Ruger Blackhawk in the console of his Saab.

I thought his main pistol was an ASP, though.
