Ladies and Gents I am thinking of re-barreling an upper with the above mentioned barrel. My questions are, Does the barrel group well at 100 yards and with what factory loading if it does?, If you run an AAC suppressor (I have a 76.2 SD) does the barrel still group to your standards? and if so what are your standards? I know i’m asking a generalized questions and my mileage may vary. But before I commit to this barrel I’d like some folks with experience with it to chime in. If this is in the wrong thread I do apologize.
I have the RGP barrel in conjunction with a SF 556 suppressor. Suppressed, I am able to maintain between 2 and 2.5 groups at 100 yards with GECO 55gr 223, CBC 62 gr (non SS109) 556, Hornady 75 gr OTM 223 and BH 77 gr TMK 556. These groups are shooting prone, supported with sand bags or a bi pod, using an Aimpoint H2. Fed AE 223 or 556 is pretty hit or miss with my barrel, some groups were over 4 inches. My eyesight is such, that I would need a magnified optic to get any tighter group if it were possible with the RGP barrel that I have. It certainly is grouping to my standards as its intended purpose is HD/SD. There’s no guarantee that my results, especially with ammo, will be yours though.
I have shot it a couple if times at 300 yards at a Steel IPSC target and was able to hit the steel with regularity, but that’s a pretty big target even at 300 yards. If I was asked if I would buy another RGP barrel, I would say no, I would say I would buy two of them!

Thank you for the quality answer. I understand that my experience may differ, but am willing to take the chance as I own one of their 16 med con barrels and love it. May I ask what buffer/ spring you use with your setup?
Some info starting on pg 103.
I was wondering the same stuff OP, I was also wondering if that barrel runs well without cans.
I have one lower with a carbine extension, Geissele Super 42 spring and H3 buffer. The other is an A5 extension with A5H4 buffer and Sprinco Green Spring. It has run with no issues unsuppressed in these configurations. Weakest power ammo used was probably PMC Bronze. I have never run steel (Wolf/Tula) thru it so I am not sure if their would be any cycling issues.
thanks for the info. I think I am going to go ahead and get this bad boy.
An additional thing is dealing with Sionics the company. I have had a few phone calls with their employees. They regularly answer the phone and are very helpful. Josh and Steve have both been good to deal with. I have no relationship with Sionics other than being a satisifed customer.
I built an SBR with this barrel but have not shot it yet. Just got the stamp back for that one a few weeks ago. Added a BCM gas block and bootleginc adjustable carrier. Also went with a BCM A5 tube and A5H3 buffer. I got the carrier to try but will likely use it on another build as I shouldn’t have gas issues on this build. Most likely will have an LMT enhanced carrier eventually. Will be running a Sandman-S on it 99.9% of the time.
I should have mentioned that I am using the LMT E-carrier with a BCM bolt. I’ve also run it with the A5H3 buffer with no issue and a H3 with blue Sprinco spring with no issue.
