I read this story a little while ago and can’t stop staring at these photos. What is the black area at the bottom? Water? Reports say the hole is 20 meters deep, but it looks like the bottomless pit in 300.
Puts my local streets in perspective.

But seriously, who’s going to volunteer to go put the temporary fence up around it? I might if it was 3/4 miles from the edge, but otherwise I’d have to pass just this once. That’s a no recovery zone if there ever was one.
Working next to an active volcano would probably be safer.

Exactly. One can only imagine how far out the pit extends beyond the rim at the top. Scary. I do pray for the residents and families affected by the storm.
Perhaps the unrecoverable nature of the neighborhood can be turned to profit. A new “Mystery Spot”.

Weird indeed! Those two photos don’t appear to be of the same hole, but after matching up the street repair patchwork, it is indeed the same hole. There’s not a consistent paint scheme on any one of the buildings around it. The second is taken from a lower angle (rooftop) and about 150 degrees horizontal rotation.
20 meters? I thought I’d read it was 100 meters. Either way, I’d bet the surrounding area really isn’t that far from following it down the hole. I mean really, where did all that material go exactly? There’s got to be a cavern down there, or a washout. Who knows how big it is. Hopefully they send down a robotic explorer.
