I am looking for a sling for my 870. I think I want a 2 point, but don’t like where the front attachment point ends up. Now I am considering a 1 point.
Can you please comment on your personal experiences with a single point sling on your shotgun. Also, what method did you use for attachment?
I use a two point sling, the Vang Comp and Wilson Combat magazine extensions have integrated sling slots. I do not care for single point slings, especially on something as long as a 18" barreled shotgun.
I bought one of those plates that installs between the receiver and stock for my Mossberg, but it didn’t include a longer bolt and the factory stock bolt couldn’t thread. I went with a two-point and even though the Mossberg’s front sling attachment is an inch from the muzzle, it has never gotten in the way when I have competed with it in tactical shotgun matches.
A shotgun is too heavy and too long for a single-point, IMO; unless maybe for an SBS. I have a padded VCAS on my 590A1SPX and the padding definitely comes in handy for such a heavy weapon. The front mounting point so close to the muzzle isn’t ideal but it works.
What do you intend to use this for?
Due to the length of the shotgun (unless its very short) I dont see a use for a single point IMO. I have used the BDS tactical one point on my Mossberg 590 and its just not practical unless maybe purely for HD and you need to carry your kid or something like that.
I switched over to the padded VTAC sling and I love it so much it will be going on my AR as well now!
As the previous poster asked, what will you be using your setup for?
I find single-point is just completely impractical as a civilian since we do not require the handling characteristics that certain professionals might with their sling system.
I run a Specter Gear 2-point sling on my Mossberg 590A1 that is quite comfortable and has sufficient length to properly accommodate the shotgun while still being adjustable. The sling came equipped with a mounting plate that is secured (with proper locking detents) under the fore-end nut. The setup worked out great for a 2-day shotgun course I took, so I’m happy with it.
Be advised a fully-loaded shotgun (of almost any flavor) is quite a beast. Make sure your sling hardware is up to snuff. We had one student’s sling swivel literally snap right off and drop his shotgun (barrel end first) onto the deck. Lucky for him, there was no damage done to the crown of his barrel. Get solid hardware for your sling!
I run a magpul ms2 on my mossberg 500. Granted its an 18" with a pistol grip. I love it.
Don’t get me started on a 18" pistol grip shotgun…
Don’t get me started on an 18" pistol grip shotgun…
T42. Why do you say that?
A shotgun doesn’t shoot a magical wall of death so its hard to hit your target from the hip when your shot may open up an inch or two in a home defense situation.
I’ve wanted to run my shotgun with an adjustable two point the same way that I have on my AR, but the length and the limited mounting options of the shotgun made it impossible for me to shoulder it and use it the way it was intended.
I have the mount plate secured between the receiver and the buttstock and I was actually thinking of using a single point sling myself but haven’t tried it out yet.
I have an A2 buttstock sling adapter on the back and I used the stud on the bayo lug in the front with a sling adapter and with my padded VCAS my 590 runs the same as my AR. Granted the pump action make things different but it has served me well.
With a pistol grip and a single point I won’t be shooting from the hip to often? Generally used to breach doors and blow out locks. I love the fallacy that you can’t shoot a pistol grip as well as a full stocked gun, or you have to have a good cheek weld to aim accurately.
If you’re a professional door kicker why don’t you have a SBS? If yore not, how often will you be shooting door locks?
Sure you’re just as accurate hip firing? Impressive.
I hate a single point on anything bigger than a cut-down breaching shotty.
Single points are a pain in the ass with even 20" ARs, worse with big shottys.
I would recommend a decent modern two-point design.
Uh, what?
