Simple question about m193

I’ve been searching but can’t find a simple answer to a simple question:

Is Federal XM193, 55gr., a decent round to use in a 5.56 1/7 barrel, 16"?

By decent I mean for practice, and maybe for self defense. Not for long range target or competition.

It is available locally for 10.00/box 20. Is that a good price?

Also what is OTM, TAP, and is the only difference in M855 that it is 62 gr.? is 62grains better than 55 for this barrel?

I know that is more than one question, but what the heck I’m just learning.

55GR ammo is fine in 1/7 barrels.

Yes its a great general purpose round…training, plinking, etc.

$10/20rds is a crappy price. That equates to $500 for a 1k rd case. Check out wideners, aim, ammo-to-go, etc for better deals. Recently I bought a 1200rd case of IMI M193, and a 1000rd case of Prvi M193 for a little over $700 shipped. Comes out to about 6 something a 20rd box.

OTM is open tip match. Basically a precision bullet meant for accuracy.

TAP is Hornady’s Tactical Application Police which are rounds meant for duty use.

M855 has a steel penetrator meant for aiding in barrier and body armor penetration. M193 does not have this.
