Sightmark Sure Shot Reflex Sight

Ultimately I would like to get the Aimpoint T1 to mount on my AR, but for now I cannot justify spending the money. For a temporary solution I ended up ordering a Sightmark Sure Shot Reflex Sight.

Does anyone have any experience using this sight? Is it any good? I figure for $50 as a temp solution for plinking at the range it can’t be that bad.

FYI, it was just featured in the movie Sucker Punch:

You’re not likely to find many members here that are going to have any experience with a cheap optic, especially one featured in an action movie.

You’re better off using your irons and saving your money for a real duty grade optic.

But how can you resist sexy women with assault weapons:D

Thanks for the advice. I had already ordered it, but I was just seeing if anyone else had any experiences with the optic that they could share.

I’ll post an update after I test it out.

I have never owned an Aimpoint, but here nothing but the best about them. I just have a hard time dishing out that kind of money for an optic that I could use to purchase a handgun with. I had a Eotech on my previous AR but had a bad experience as my Eotech had the notorious draining of the batteries defect that some of the older ones had.

Just save for the aimpoint. Believe me, its worth it. You can still find a good deal on R1’s.

Search R1 and look through the thread about the midwayusa sale…at the end theres a link to another sale.

Thanks for the advice on the sale.

I think it would have been smarter to save the fifty bucks, keep shooting irons and either put the fifty bucks saved towards an Aimpoint or towards some good accessories.

Not being a dick, but no serious end user justifies their weapon or accessory purchases off what was used in a movie. Sightmark is made in China garbage.

What’s done is done. Practice with your sight, and don’t neglect the irons.

The big question here is…
Why do movies keep putting junk accessories on their guns?

I’d prefer you don’t. We don’t care about cheap optics.

Your $50 could have been better spent buying four magazines.

It is not below you to use open sights until you can afford a real optic.

You can save yourself $50 by using the fixed sights that come on most AR’s & put that money towards a quality sight if a RDS is what you want/need.

. . . and this is why I deliberately did not make any April Fools’ posts, no matter how tempting.

Next we’ll have people inquiring about bringing lever guns to a carbine class.

Yeah I should have posted this before I spent the $50 on cheap optic. I have never owned a quality RDS so I guess I don’t know what I am missing yet…but I am sure after owning one you never want to use anything else.

Well that and long after you forget the cost of the optic, the quality will be remembered. Trust me. Yeah, so what if it costs what a handgun costs. Do you have your defensive handgun needs covered? Then I don’t think you’ll miss adding another handgun to the roster.

And you should have asked us before you purchased. There are often deals to be had on different model Aimpoints or used ones.

Live and learn. Keep your eyes on the EE here. From time to time you can find some good deals on used Aimpoints. I would be a bit more cautious when checking the EE on other boards because of all the fakes.

I would have started a Aimpoint Jar ,this is what i did and in less than 2 months I Now Have a Quality Aimpoint RDS .Buy once is One thing I have Learned here .

There are always great deals to be had on Optics Here in the EE .when someone Upgrades ETC. Just Learn to save your money and Not give in to the" Got to have it Now" Impulse

+1 on this. You can find alot of good deals on this sites Equipment Exchange.

Thank you all for the advice. I will keep an eye out on the EE in the forum.

An added benefit to this advise is learning the system you will have to use if your optic dies. Of course, that will be less likely if you get the betteer sight to begin with.

There’s a guy that participates in our local matches that runs one of those sights. He likes it, alhough he has to rig some taped on pieces of cardboard to it to form a bit of a sun shade since the dot washes out in bright sunlight. Try selling it once you get it and just save for a quality optic.

Whats the purpose of your rifle??? If its seen as a defensive tool then you need a quality optic if you choose to use an optic at all…otherwise just use irons as they work fine.

If you’re just gonna hit the range every other month to burn up a 100rd bulk pack of ammo while sitting at a bench or shooting into the dirt than that optic will serve you fine.

That doesn’t sound like fun. I will try to sell it and save up for the Aimpoint.

I am building the rifle for all purpose use, i.e. (home defense, light range use, SHTF gun, possibly a carbine class in the future) Definitely will be needing a quality optic. I had an Eotech in the past, but I am sold on the Aimpoint T-1 after reading about the battery life.

Well I am glade you started listening to the experts in this forum.
I will say you are not the only one that had to save there pennies to get an Aimpoint I had too also and glade I did.
My ML3 as been on continuously since I pulled it out of the box a year ago I might even change the battery next year. The T-1 is a great rds but I would suggest you also look at the other options offered by Aimpoint my ML3 is rated at 50 000 (over 5 years of continuous use) The c3 has also the same rating with a lower price the PRO package is also another option. If money is a concern.
BTW The only way I can get my aimpoint to wash out on setting 10 is to look directly into the sun with it. I call setting 10 the AA setting it’s very bright even after being run continuously for a year.
