Sight Questions for Glock and M&P

So, I posted in the Glock pic thread, but figured I needed a new topic for my questions. Oddly, I’m stuck on this elementary shit and need a hand.

For the past few years, i’ve used 10-8 and Warren sights. Tritium front and a black or single dot rear.

Things I like

• The Warren outlined tritium front.

• The wide U notch shared by both.

• I really like the top profile of the Warrens. They don’t rip into my shirts like the 10-8’s do.

• The 10-8’s ledge rear.

Things I don’t like

• The Warrens are not a ledge sight. Not a big deal, but would be be nice to have I guess.

• The 10-8’s have sharp edges on the rear and tear my shirts.

• No rear tritium option on the 10-8’s unless it’s done aftermarket.

The 10-8 rear would be my favorite if it had a single dot tritium available when ordering and if the corners were knocked off like the Warrens.

So far, the Trijicon HD’s look pretty slick, but I’d like them with a U notch rear and a single dot tritium. Iv’e searched but they only seem available with a two dot rear. Not a bad thing, just not my preference.

What other options are there? The hacks look good too, but I don’t have any real experience with them to know.

I’m wondering if I could just do a Warren rear single dot and a Trijicon HD front? Not sure about the site height, so I’ll have to check on that one.

The sights will be for a new Glock 17 gen 3 and will be a work gun after another few hundred rounds. So, even though the ledge rear isn’t a big deal to me, it’s still a good thing to have I guess.

The other gun will be a new 12/12 production M&P9. That one I’m not as concerned about and will likely just do the Warrens again.

My Glock 17 gen 4 with a 10-8 rear and Warren front. The M&P in this pic is just a fuck-around gun, though I did carry it for about 7 months. The paint was just until I could get it refinished due to a not-so-good duracoat on the slide and grinding on the frame.

Warren front and rear on another M&P of mine.

Thanks in advance.

Jon

AFAIK, Trijicon is not selling the HD front sight by itself.

I put the Hacks on my M&P, and am quite happy with them. Though I would prefer a green front like the Glock Trijicon HD.

The Ameriglo ProGlo is very similar to the HD front sight. You may want to take a look at it. They sell just the front sight.

Ameriglo I-Dot GL-101 or I-Dot Pro GL-201 sound right up your alley. The difference being the Pros have the Hack front.

Currently have the Trijicon HDs on one of my Glocks, and do not like the narrow rear 0.169" versus the Ameriglo 0.180".

Kind of mentioned it in the pic thread, but my vote has been for the Trijicon HDs lately. Glock pic thread has a longer explanation.

As mentioned above me, the HDs are slightly narrower, but this equates to allowing more precision. Since the overall rear is taller, I find the extra vertical ambient lighting coming in means no sacrifice in speed of target acquisition.

I’ve got the Ameriglo Operators, Ameriglo iDots, Ameriglo Hackathorns, and Trijicon HDs on hand if you have any questions / pic requests.

I agree, the iDot Pro with no outline yellow rear sounds like what you are looking for. Honestly, I think if Trijicon made the HD with a single rear yellow tritium vial - it would really round out their line.

If you want a plain black rear, your best options are the Hacks, CAP, or Triji HDs (easy to cover up dots). I’m not sure how bright the photo luminescent paint is on the CAP, but between the iDots / Hacks vs HDs, the HDs win hands down. Particularly the yellow front. However, the CAP might be just as bright.

If you want three dots, the Operators (Bowie Operators are the best variant) or the HDs. The HDs are taller, faster, and have a brighter front. The Operators I find more accurate (than all sights listed so far for that matter) and I really like the subdued yellow no outline rear tritium. I always thought I liked no dot or single dot rear sights best, but I’ve been shooting a lot of no light lately, and can see the benefit of two rear lamps. I prefer the tritium colors be different, but not necessary. What is necessary is that the tritium has no paint outlines around the tritium - so it appears plain black during the day.

If you want a ledge, all will work - with the Hacks providing the least and the HDs providing the most.

There’s still no perfect sight - at least not for me - on the market yet. I do know I’ve fallen in love with photo luminescent paint on the front sight surrounding the tritium. The iDot Pro / Hacks don’t work nearly as well as the yellow HDs, and I suspect the Ameriglo yellow CAP, so I’ll be sticking to those.

I believe the CAP front works with the Hackathorn rear. If so, my subcompact pistols will be sporting that combo. My Fullsize / Midsize pistols will be running the taller Trijicon yellow HDs.

I still want to try the Redback 1 sights at some point as well.

Finally, I have to mention it to fully relay my experience between the two companies. I love Ameriglo sights, they are great people, and I feel like they dominate the pistol night sight market. But I’ve had some sort of issue with almost every set of Ameriglo’s I own. Could be abuse or bad luck. I will say that Trijicon sights have a better finish and lack sharp edges found on many Ameriglos, and without any factual evidence - I feel like the Trijicon’s housing material is stronger.

Happy hunting. There’s no free lunch, especially in pistol sights.

I have the same on my '27. I love the iDots, especially the large u notch. While my google fu is not as strong as other members, the iDots feel less cluttered then the OEM night sights on my '32.

I’ve got the Green HD’s on all my M&P pistols and I really, really like them. Fast to pick up and when you hard focus on the front I am pretty accurate with them.

My perfect sight would be a custom width Warren plain rear and the Hack or Trijicon HD front (tritium with orange ring)

I’d like the width of the notch to maintain the same front site/ light ratio has the Warren sights.

Right now I have warren plain rears and fiber fronts on all but one of my glocks.

I have the Warren green night sight front and plain rear on both of my M&Ps. When I had Glocks I ran the RB1 sights and really liked them. Would love to see that option open up for the Smith and Wesson someday.

Thanks guys. I’m going to quote and post back more specifics… But for right now, I see a U notch M&P I-DOT, but only the square notch for the Glock I-DOT.

So far, the Glock I-DOT GL-202 (green front w/ orange outline and yellow tritium rear) looks about right, but a U notch would be even better. The I-DOT PRO has a wider front, but the thinner 102 set isn’t outlined in anything but white, correct? For those of you using these, does the orange outlined green tritium offer much over the white outlined green tritium?

The GL-301 looks interesting too as it has the photo luminescent paint, but I didn’t much care for that on my HK45 and 45c. So, maybe not that big of a deal.

The M&P set looks good. Too bad I can’t try the damn things anywhere around here before buying.

I’m using the I-dot Pro GL-201 in my EDC G19. The rear is more of a rounded out square. The orange front is VERY fast to pick up.

Have you looked at XS big dot sights? I have been eyeing them, don’t have any experience with them though. Anyone recommend?

edit: I have some Trijicon HD sights coming in the mail, going to try them out and report back. I’ve wanted to try the Warrens but I just can’t get past the “no ledge”, not that it’ll be a likely necessity but its nice to have options.

I beat the shit out of my gear, so this is important. Thanks. The HD’s sound like a good bet.

BUT, the HD’s look like they have the same rear profile as the 10-8’s. So, I might be back to the same issue there.

Do the HD’s have a single dot rear option? I only see the two dot rears on their site.

Two dot only, you can all ways subdue the rear vials with a red sharpie to make them not as bright.
