I am switching employers and will be moving from Glock 17 to a Sig P229 in 40S&W. Is has been a few years since I carried a P229, and I see that there are now Sig factory “Super Capacity Tactical” magazines available that bump capacity from 12 to 14 rounds. Has anyone run these mags hard? Are they reliable? If they work, they would be great for uniformed patrol where concealment is not an issue.
I searched quite a bit and didn’t find much on these mags. I don’t know if that’s because they suck, no one is using them, or both. Any experience you can share is appreciated.
I have a 229SCT in 9mm. I cannot vouch for the reliability of the .40 S&W mags, but my gun, and said magazines, have been reliable for 500 rounds without malfunction of any kind. I realize it’s a fairly low round count in terms of reliability testing, but it’s performed well considering I’ve done nothing but clean and lube the gun every couple hundred rounds.
I’ve put about 1000 rounds each through a couple of the .40 S&W SCT mags without issue. Couple times the slide didn’t lock back but it was just my thumb riding the slide stop.
