Sig p226 357 Sig Police Trade-in

I recently acquired a police trade-in Sig P226 in .357 Sig. What parts should be replaced and/or what maintenance should be performed prior to firing the firearm?

Also, does anybody have a good source for 357 Sig ammunition?

What is the condition? If it is in good shape, you probably don’t need to do anything. If the gun is beat to hell, replacing the recoil spring is a good place to start.

Check out http://sigforum.com for lots of good SIG info. I’m sure you can get answers to your functionality questions there.

Also check out http://www.topgunsupply.com for parts. They sort of specialize in Sig stuff.

I have an older P226 9mm w/ the folded metal slide that I purchased used. Really excellent pistol. Very accurate and, so far in the 2k rounds I’ve had on it, very reliable. My buddy has somewhere around 5k on his. I have no experience w/ the 357Sig model though or the newer stainless slide models.

I know the 2004+ SIGs have gotten the reputation of not having as good a quality level of pre '04’s. Again, no direct experience w/ these models. I do have my heart set on a current year German made P229R 9mm though.

Big plus one for Top Gun Supply.

I was issued a new P226 .357 in the police academy in 2002, when my agency transitioned to the railed variant we weren’t allowed to buy our old gun. I had my first gun broken in and it was sweet - I miss it alot. Let me know if the serial number is U616726.
