There seems to be quite a bit of interest in the new SIG E2s, particularly the ergonomics (short trigger and redesigned grip.) What with the widely reported QC issues with the “new SIG,” are you willing to take a chance?
I looked very hard at the 226 E2 and was really impressed with the improved ergos. I had a 226 years ago, loved it, and was sorely tempted by the E2.
But I am set on DAO for the pistols I carry.
If I was a SIG DA/SA action guy, I would not hesitate to buy this weapon.

I have a Sig E2 226. No noticable problems as of yet, but haven’t put a lot of rounds through it yet. The reset is nice in the gun and it has a very strange recoil.
Could you be more specific?
I’ll try without sounding like an idiot. In my logic, I call it hollow recoil. Or phantom recoil haha. When you fire the gun, you feel a good amount of recoil then it dramatically softens. It’s the strangest thing and I like it. But then again I might just be crazy.
i think it has the best DA/SA trigger on a factory Sig gun in a long time…
and the SRT is a step in the right direction
but I had problem with finger placement with regular sigs because the trigger in SA was too far back for me
with the E2 I can make the “OK” symbol with my thumb and forefinger through the trigger guard without firing the gun…
just to be clear…when the trigger is in SA mode, I can put my trigger finger all the way through the guard, around the trigger, and touch my thumb…
this does not lead to good trigger hygiene 
i think the E2 is the step in the right direction for a lot of Sig fans…but I’ll stick with my glocks…
I like it enough to buy it, until I saw the price and I realized I didn’t like it THAT much…
And even then the slide lock lever is still in the wrong place.
I guess that I just really dont see the “new sig issues”. I know that problems have shown themselves in the recent past but to my knowledge these issues have been resolved.
The p220 extractor issue has been fixed as far as I can tell by the new external that is used in all the other “p” series guns. I think that this more than any other issue tainted the sig line.
The takedown lever has been an issue( or so I have heard) but I am not in a position to speak from experience here as I have the “combat take-down lever” in my p220 and my p229 seems to be chugging along fine.
The slide release is IMHO perfect on the doublestack guns(229/226). It is in a very good position for me and for some reason the width keeps me from having probs holding it down. I had to practice with the p220, as I did have problems initially.
I think the the new stainless slide is a + as it requires less pm, and the sig is unfortunatly one of the few remaining guns from an external hammer/metal frame era that is gtg in terms of reliability.
I will say that I personally really enjoy shooting a sig but i do have issues with the p220, as comfortable as it is, being two thin in the grip area to avoid the controls. I have issues inadvertantly slightly holding down the decocker when I torque my off hand during the press out which can cause ftf. I also have problems since there is no “hump” in the grip to pull my thumb away from the slide release like the p226/p229 series has. I just reciently stippled the grips on both my p220 combat and p229 and in my case this helps slightly with the decocker(since my hand can torque but cant move:D) and also adds another benifit since the “P” series has so much coverage by the plastic grip that stippling is very effective.
just my observations.
Overall, I’d spring for a S&W 5946 or 5943 and save about $600 in the bargain.
I got my E2 for $850. I think it was well worth it. 
Sigs IMO, are no longer worth the premium prices they ask.
I handled a P226R e2 9MM at a local shop recently. This pistol had the best DA and SA I have ever felt on a factory pistol. It was better than my old P229R with the SRT and AEP from Sig.
I couldn’t believe how light the DA was compared to other NIB Sigs I have handled.
The ergos felt fine even for my medium sized hands. I can’t deal with super skinny grips and crap triggers. This e2 felt good in the hand with a thumbs forward grip.
I am going to wait until they release the P229R e2 this summer and if it offers the same ergos and trigger I will definitely buy one. I hope the grip is the same width front to back.
I would buy the P226R e2 but there is no way I could conceal carry it.
I haven’t been able to shoot one yet but have handled both the 226 E2 and 229 E2 and was impressed. I don’t think they are for everyone but good for those with small to medium sized hands.
Where I think they will really shine is at departments like mine where you get issued a P226 regardless of your hand size. We have some officers that will really benefit from the reduced trigger reach.
Another perk is it should end the notorious loose grip screws on Sigs (no screws to lose).
I haven’t seen any of the rumored QC problems so thats not a factor for me. Once I get a chance to shoot one I might end up with a pair of E2 grips on my P226s.

Actually, I have this rifle that makes this “sproingy” sound when I shoot it. 
I’d get one except that the price is too high. It’s just a PISTOL!!! I’d rather take that money and put it toward ammo or a rifle.
I loved the feel. Now I’m just waiting for them to come out with versions for the P229 and P220.

It’s not the cheapest brand of guns but it surely isn’t the most expensive either. (This is where you say “and don’t call me Shirley”) haha I’ve been watching Airplane.
When I was firearms training coordinator, I instituted a policy that officers with smll hands could be issued a SIG 239 rather than the standard 226. It goes without saying that the E2 226 rolled out a few months later. Of course, I was the last person in America to purchase a Betamax VCR.
Overall, I’m pretty impressed with the ergonomics of the E2. SIG seems to be most popular (and arguably most reliable) in Classic SIG. I think the E2 will keep some agencies and individuals with SIG rather than a polymer pistol with adjustable grips.

Whoever told you that is crazy or has no clue what he/she was talking about. There was a thread on here when the E2s were first introduced that showed the backstraps (grips removed) of the E2 and standard pistols side-by-side, the E2s have significantly less material in their backstraps (acheived, IIRC, by switching to a more compact mainspring).
It’s definetely NOT just the grip panels.

Here is ToddG’s reply as to what you would need to to replace on current P226s to convert: “You would need the new grip, a new hammer strut, a hammer spring, and a hammer spring seat.”
