I was hoping for it to be here by now, but when I had called, I had ask for two (since this is the first time I’ve had a firing pin break). $20 and out of stock.
Which leads me to this. Up until last month I was very happy with this rifle. Very reliable, very accurate considering the round, and a very nice platform. 3,000 rounds later and *click.
A firing pin break for me at this round count is unsatisfactory. Also the long wait for the replacement. So, I’m now looking to get rid of it and go to something else in 7.62x39.
My knee jerk reaction is the Galil ACE. Comes with rail systems top and bottom, a neat and clever way to mount a pressure switch for a light, folding stock, cheek riser for optics, AK guts, good accuracy. It’s also kind of an excuse to buy Israeli to help them out consider our Government isn’t.
On the other hand: with the price point of the ACE, I could buy two Arsenals, or just one and buy ammo. Thanks to the Sig, I have a sizable collection of mags; and thanks to my AK74, I have a good knowledge of the AK (really nothing exciting because, well, it’s an AK).
This buy will be next year with taxes, and the Sig gone soon after. But damn, decisions.
Firing pins and extractors are among the most heavily loaded parts on pretty much any firearm. It’s not too shocking that you broke one. 3000 rounds is a bit disappointing though.
Don’t forget about the MK47. By that time there may be enough in circulation for a decent idea of their performance. I was planning on an SBR’d ACE when I got back to a free state but the modularity with AR parts is pretty appealing. For me, if someone makes a better CH and it seems to be a solid weapon, I’ll be all over it.
SIG 553 R in 7.62x39 is coming soon. Projected msrp is going to be $2200 to $2300. They use standard AK mags, will have 12" barrels, green furniture, and be imported as pistols. This was from the current SwissArms importer, JDI.

In all seriousness, I just like Piston systems on ARs over DI. I lean in a certain direction, however, I do strongly believe that you cannot go wrong with a Direct Impingement AR. They are both good methods of operation. You cannot go wrong with either one. Despite my preference for Piston systems, my next few AR builds will be Direct Impingement.
Update: called Sig again and apparently the second time I called about the missing fire pin, they did not try to reship me one. Third time I’d the charm.

The SIG 553 pistols interest me, but I wonder how long it’s going to be before one of these “US AK Manufacturers” start turning out Krinks.
That’s actually kind of funny to me… I called SIG CS over a pair of P226 springs I got in P228 bags… the dude on the other end of the phone line was high or something.
I wonder what that operation even looks like up there…
Sweet Oden’s Raven!! Looks like the KAC ACC funds may be redirected. I thought the powers at be determined the SAPR to be prohibited as a derivative of the 550? Not that I agreed with that line of thinking in any way shape or form based on it’s design.
