SIG 556 with Aimpoint T-1, H-1 or Sig knock-off AND Aurora or Sig diopters

Since people tend to poorly title their threads, or post pics in threads completely unrelated to a specific subject and with no accompanying text to make it searchable…

Can anyone who has a SIG 556 with one of the Aimpoint T-1, H-1 or the Sig knock-off T-1 and Sig specific diopters please post pics and tell me about how it co-witnesses, what mount you used for the optic, etc.

Thanks.

I’m still waiting on my diopters.

I actually went with a Hendsolt on an ARMS QD mount but I doubt very much they are gonna co witness. Also given the the Heldsolt is a 4x, co witness doesn’t really benefit you like a 1x.

While not a 556 (it’s a Swiss Arms CQB, or Sig 552), I use the factory low mount and get good lower 1/3 co-witness with this setup.

Don’t know if the 556 has the hooded front, but the field of view is a little ‘busy’ on my setup. Still, I prefer the T1 to any other optic I’ve tried on this bad boy!

That rail looks higher than what I have on the classic. Am I seeing it wrong or is the rail taller/thicker? David

You know - you’re right! The 552 up here comes with no rail. It’s a rail made by a Canadian guy specifically for the Swiss Arms rifles.

It IS higher than a normal flat top for sure. But if I can get a co-witness, it should be no problem with a lower rail.

If I had to change, I’d go with a Larue LT661 mount.

I’m running Aurora sights and the SIG fakepoint. The dot sits right on top of the front sight, in the middle of the hood. I’m just using the mount that it comes with. It’s nice and low, you can really get down on the diopter sights. I love this platform except for the placement of the safety and the mag release.

phazuka did you get your sights from Aurora or did you get them from a third party?

Alright, dwhitehorne and I met up to compare parts and have determined that the factory Sig diopters are too high for use with the Aimpoint T1 in the ADM mount.

The red dot sits in the post, instead of top of or above the post. :frowning:

Looks like I will have to find some Auroras…

Got mine from Top Gun.

The SIG USA diopters didn’t work with an ADM absolute cowitness mount?

Did not work with this mount:

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=27291/Product/AD_T1_L_AIMPOINT_MICRO_MOUNT

This is not the greatest picture to compare but it is the only one I can come up with while at work. If you look at the height of the front sight on my rifle above the sight adjusting wheel, you can see it looks taller than the front assemblies in the other pictures posted in this thead. So SHIVAN’s Aimpoint with the ADM mount looks like it sets just below absolute co-witness with the Sig diopter sight. David

I just bought a Primary Arms gen 2 micro dot, and with the standard (low) mount it’s too low on the Sig to cowitness. It’s kind of an “upper third” cowitness setup. I believe that these PA micro dots are slightly lower than a real H-1/T-1.

Anybody know how much taller the LaRue LT-661 is than a factory Aimpoint mount?

edit: for reference, I measure the center of the PA tube at 0.731" high, as measured from the top of the rail.

  • SIG USA front diopter sight. 1.010 inches
  • HK416 front sight. 1.100 inches
  • SANS SIG front diopter. .720 inches
  • Larue CASV aimpoint mount. 1.2 inches to center (approx) I think it is possibly the same as their hk416 height mount.

I don’t have an AR front that I can measure easy, but the rear’s are about 1.4 inches tall from the top of the rail to the center of the aperture.

I’m sure the larue 416 stuff would work with the USA diopters if you wanted a lower 1/3.

The aurora sights are only slightly lower than the USA diopters.

Me and a few other people use original fronts…

And LPA rears…

If you want absolute cowitness I think you’re going to have to go with the sig knockoff micro and your current sights (the knockoff does an absolute cowitness), or measure the centerline of your micro and guestimate if a SANS SIG front will work with a low adm mount.

This might help.

There are 5 different heights of sights for the SIG 556 weapons platform: Listed below from the LOWEST to the TALLEST.

  1. Original SIG Switzerland / SAN SG 550/1/2 Height which we copy for our MFI Drum Rear Sight and Front Hooded Sight. This includes both SIG SAN SG 550/1 Hooded Front Sights & the SIG SAN 552 Non-Hooded Flip Front Sight.(LOWEST)

  2. Aurora Front and Rear Sights which are taller by ¼ of an inch then the Original SIG 550/1/2 yet lower than the SIG USA 556 Non-Hooded Flip Sight. It is our understanding that Aurora sights only line up with other Aurora sights. Derek if we are wrong just let us know.

  3. New SIG USA SIG 556 Classic which is taller than the Aurora sight height by about 1/8 of an inch. These are actually copies of the SIG 543 Limited production from the 1970s that were shelved for the SIG SAN 550 series design. Basically a design resurrected from the dead for whatever reason.

  4. SIG USA 556 Flip Front Sight (NOT the Classic) which lines up only with their little nail file sight found in their top sight rail or their blocky clip on rear sight. These do NOT line up with the new SIG USA Classic front or rear sights. This sight is about 1/4 of an inch taller than the SIG Classic sights.

  5. GG&G, Samson and other AR15 accessory manufactures have retrofitted existing AR15 Height Front and Rear Sights to fit on to the SIG 556 platform. These are all the same height as existing AR15 sights which make these by far the tallest of the 5 sighting systems.

AR 15 Height sights will offer you the most style variation as there are at least 25 different rear sight on the market for AR-15 / M16s. The draw back is that they are so tall that they interfere with scopes / optics and seriously detract from the Original Swiss SIG 550/1/2 look.

ETA: Looks like armakraut beat me to it.

Top Gun has been sold out for awhile now and MFI did not respond to my email. Does anyone know where to find the original sig rear diopter? CO gun sales sells the front but only sells the rear one combined with the rail for an exorbitant $559

I see three different listings on gun broker when you search “sig diopter” David

Those are all the set Sig Sauer sells, i’m looking for the original set made in Switzerland by SIG

Sig’s are one part $$$, one part “out-of-stock-forever.”
