SIG 556 Pistol Bolt Catch Doesn't Engage..........

Doesn’t seem to matter how I try to get the bolt to lock back, it wont.

Pulling the charging handle all the way back, and pushing up or down on the bolt catch lever does nothing.

Anyone have this issue?

And I just picked this up, so no, haven’t fired a round through it yet.

What would cause this?

Have you checked to make sure the bolt catch isn’t broken off inside?

I looked and it didn’t appear to be broken, though I’ll take a closer look when I get home and check with diagrams of 556 parts to make sure it’s all there.

A broken bolt catch on a brand new gun. Lovely prospect.

Just trying to eliminate the obvious before we look at something else.

I’d also call SIG and see if they’ve got a tech guy that might be able to trouble shoot for you.

I called SIG and got a guy on the phone who sounded like his last job was in a record store in a mall.

Very little idea of what I was talking about, he had me on hold to confer with his colleagues.

Came back and said “Yeah, the bolt should be retained back when the bolt catch is employed.” “Tell you what…lets get your information and get a shipping order out to you…we’ll get the gun back here for a look.”

I said “Wouldn’t even the most cursory function check have identified such an issue prior to the weapon being shipped? I spotted this within 5 minutes of unpacking it.”

'Yeah, I guess it should have."

What a pain in the ass. Not a shot fired and the MFer has to be sent back.

I’d shoot it first, to check for proper function as far as feeding, etc.

I would shoot it also to see if everything else is in order. Mine has had no issues in the short period of time that I have had it.
