SIG-556 In 7.62x39?

SIG-556 In 7.62x39?

Looks like it!

Fool me once then shame on you (556 in 5.56), fool me twice then shame on me (556 in 7.62 x 39)

I have to admit that I find this interesting. IF they do it right, it could be a useful platform for the 7.62x39 round. I’ll have to keep an eye on this.

Like an AK?

Both rifles have charging handles on the right side? check
Both rifles require grip shift to access fire control? check
Both rifles have rock-n-lock mag with a lever? check
Both rifles use practically the same operating system? check

The sig556 7.62x39mm is most likely going to be above a grand, an AK can be had for much less than a grand.

The 550 platform offers vast improvements in mounting optics. As well as being able to have a forend that more easily supports modern shooting technique. While I don’t feel the 556 is a great platform, in x39 using AK mags, I feel it could be a worthwhile venture. IF Sig executes it well.

The SIG rail is ass. The way it is attached to the weapon sucks.

There will be no good reason to buy this gun over a solid AK. It will cost nearly twice as much as a solid AK, only with shoddy SIG build quality with nearly identical ergos as an AK.

What’s the point?

For the price, you’ll be able to build a vastly superior Vickers AK clone and have enough left over to fund a used Aimpoint T1

The forend I’m talking about is the standard 550 style, I agree rail choices for the 556 suck. I own 3 “Vickers style” AK’s, and I’ve attended a Vickers AK class. I’m a big proponent of the AK, and feel it’s the definition of a robust carbine.

That doesn’t change the fact that the 550 series does bring things to the table. Is the 556 series that great? No. Would I be interested in a 550 style rifle in 7.62x39 using AK mags? Yes. While cost is certainly a factor, it’s not the end all, be all factor.

Notice I said IF Sig executes this well, it would be an interesting rifle(to me at least). After all that, Sig USA will most likely blow it.

More trash products.

With .300 Remington BLK comming out with supersonic ballistics that mimic 7.62x39 there is no reason to buy anything else.

What shit magazines to they plan to use in the SIG556 7.62x39?

It’s supposed to use AK mags, what mag they will ship it with I have no idea. Probably Tapco, with Sig USA at the helm.

If you can get the exceedingly rare and expensive ammo for free, sure.

I’ll buy one at least, and a pistol version also (if available) for SBR’ing.

Call me once they make a 5.45x39mm version that uses standard AK-74 mags.
Or a 54R version of the sniper variant.

I’m not much of a 7.62x39mm fan - so this holds zero to little value in my book, especially compared to a 10/63 or other good cheap AK.

The 7.63x39 ballistics are not that good…

I never said they were.

My point was you can get an AK like round in an AR15 with no proprietary components except a different barrel.

The SIG rail is ass. The way it is attached to the weapon sucks.

What’s wrong with the way it’s attached to the weapon? Same way a vast number of scope mounts are attached to rifles, with screws. I have a 375 RUM and two Savage rifles with rails attached with screws, they work fine.

Actual pic

Those sights are the wrong height for the Swiss stock, but leave it to SIG USA to half ass…

SIG, WHERE IS THIS?!?!?!?!?!

SIG, WHERE IS THIS?!?!?!?!?!

You don’t need it. You own an XCR.

I think it’s in SteyrAUG’s safe right now.

Aborted cartridge meets aborted rifle…

Did Planned Parenthood help develope this “rifle”?

wow I actually like it.

Here’s the deal…

The sig762x39 has two things I like about it compared to 7.62x39 AK’s.

  1. selector switch is closer to the grip hand. For me, it would still require me to shift my grip to manipulate the switch, but I think it’s better than the AK lever simply because it’s closer.

  2. It comes standard with a rail on top, negating the need to buy a picatinny rail that mounts on the side of the AK rifle.

So what’s the problem???

The problem is that I most likely can buy a good quality 7.62 AK, side rail extension, and a krebs enhanced safety lever for less than what the sig762x39 is going to sell for.

I thought I left 7.62x39 for good…fucking sig messing with my head.
